Syma X5HW Altitude Hold Camera Drone Flight Review

This upgrade of the popular Syma X5SC/W includes an effective altitude hold feature to make FPV flying very easy. Buy it here http://www.banggood.com/Syma-X5HW-WIFI-FPV-With-2MP-HD-Camera-2_4G-4CH-6Axis-RC-Quadcopter-RTF-p-1034073.html?p=RB0922217402201307U3 or here on Amazon http://amzn.to/2hNNBg6 And buy spare batteries and parts here http://www.banggood.com/search/x5hc-x5hw.html?p=RB0922217402201307U3
This quadcopter uses WiFi with your smartphone to allow real time viewing of in flight video. Yet it still has surprisingly good control and FPV range for a WiFi based FPV flier.

Pro’s
– Binds with the X8C controller if you want increased range! And the phone attachment clip fits snugly to the top of the X8C antenna. But the X8C controller does not have an auto-center stick. You’ll need to manually do that (not very hard to do).
– Effective altitude hold feature that helps the pilot maintain focus on his/her flying FPV flying, and less on worrrying about impacting the ground.
– Range of both flight control and FPV range seems to be much greater than the advertised 30 to 50m range. I flew well beyond the advertised range through much of the above video, and still maintained video reception and flight control.
– Has headless mode.
– Stable flier, providing relatively smooth aerial video.
– Does not require FAA registration as it weighs less than 250 grams.

Con’s
– Proprietary Syma battery connector prevents using third party batteries. But you could change the quadcopter’s power connector to a standard mini Losi connector if you wish to use the widely available generic (and cheap) Syma X5C batteries.
– Does not have one key return. However, not a big loss as this feature is not really effective on quadcopters that do have it.
– Photo and video resolution is relatively low at 0.3MP/640x480p. This is an inherent limitation of WiFi FPV fliers.
– Video recording would occasionally stop for no reason. But this could be a fault of my cheap $49 phone.

  1. thanks for the vid. i'm planning on buying my first drone and this made me think about being able to see the smart phone screen in the light as it usually sucks big time. So should i go for a model with the full controller? opinions?

  2. Thank you for this amazing in depth review. I am very new to this quadcopter world and need your assistance. What would you suggest for the novice buyer to get Syma X5HW or CheerWing CW4??

  3. there is delay between camera and what you are seeing. I own this quadcopter and that is the only thing that i dont like about this. This is good copter for low prize.

  4. Everything looks the same as my swift stream z-9 the battery is identical the battery compartment on the drone is identical same as the led lights! Even the camera looks the same

  5. The one comment I would make is that the X5HC has a much better camera. At .3mp pictures and video from the X5W are not great.

  6. Hi sir I bought my Syma X5hw yesterday But seems like my FPV isn't that accurate to work …It's very lag I checked the wirings but there's no problem about it…
It's hard to fly my quadcopter bcuz of its poor signal?

  7. I am confused whether to buy this or spend some extra bucks and get the Hubsan H107D+ X4 FPV PLUS or any other model of JJRC. Can you please suggest which one would be better? I am a new flyer and want a durable drone with a nice camera (really need).

  8. does anyone else lose signal with this drone frequently. I almost never fly it more than 15 yards from myself and I still lose signal. I'm tempted to buy a remote with a better transmitter.

  9. Hi nice video ! can you please tell when we put that on altitude hold will it freeze the drone on that same location or it will just keep moving here there with same alititure level, And also will it work indoor as well that mode altitude hold mode.
