Eachine E511S Folding GPS Camera Drone Flight Test Review

This folding GPS drone is available in several different options at several different cost levels. Find it here https://goo.gl/YkLg6E

Pros
– Folding drone with GPS. Can return to home and land automatically on command, on loss of signal, or on low battery.
– Available at many options at varied price levels, including with 1, 2, or 3 batteries, 720p or 1080p cameras, and 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz (802.11ac) WiFi versions.
– Video is recorded directly to a microSD card to avoid WiFi frame dropping.
– Camera includes 120 degree wide angle lens, and its view can be manually tilted up or down.
– Uses large 7.4V 1200mah battery.
– FPV video can be viewed on your smartphone, and advanced features can be controlled through the drone’s LW FPV app available on Google Play here https://goo.gl/9dDTuJ and iTunes here https://goo.gl/RWysLW .

Cons
– Cheaper 720p and base 1080p versions use 2.4Ghz WiFi, and can be flown using most phones. However, the 1080p 5G version uses 802.11ac WiFi. Not everyone has a phone capable of using this WiFi. It is very important to first verify that your phone can indeed use 802.11ac WiFi before purchasing the 1080p 5G version of this drone.
– Maximum FPV range was relatively short for 5G WiFi at about 150 meters.
– The compass kept losing calibration during flight causing toilet bowl effect (TBE). This required multiple compass calibrations during the review.
– The waypoint feature was buggy. Google Maps would not show up. Setting waypoints was difficult as sometimes they would not take on the touchscreen.
– The app crashed on me a couple times during the flights.
– Advertised 16 minute flight time is very doubtful. More realistic flight time is around 9 to 10 minutes.

  1. 80 meters on 2.4 hahahahaha more like 80 feet… dude you are funny…. also calibration is only needed for quads with GPS NOT EVERY ONE

  2. Would you say this is worth having over the non gps e511? Is it any better to fly? Also the battery seems to last around 4 minutes less.

  3. Great review, I have the each one 511S can anyone help it will not lift off, it shows a hover look notice which I can’t remove? Please

  4. Hey thanks for the review but i got a question: Is is possible to change the curvy view of the camera with settings? Or is it because of the fact that the camera is 120° angle? Is it possible to get a "flat" view?

  5. nice review…can you do a comparison between ..sjrc f11 vs bugs 5w.. if what is better buy for that two drone.?? its giving me a hard time to choose if what is better buy for that two..?

  6. Hi – finally, after long long time, I got from China at my home a E551s, and I started yesterday to "study" it. The manual speaks about a button to choose between altitude mode and gps mode, but when I press it it starts/stops video, it seems to do other things than setting gps or altitude mode. the other upper button takes photos … How do You use altitude mode ? In the phone app there is a setting for taking off with no gps, but in the remote controller, with no labels it is hard to discover all the functions …. Thanks if You help me – Alfredo

  7. Maybe someone on here can help I bought the 511s came sat and it only records vids on my micro sd I can watch it on my phone and the pics show up on my phone and app but no vids is there a setting in the app perhaps

  8. I really love your reviews! They helped me a lot to decide on which drone to buy. Unfortunately I have skipped the intro where you explained why one should buy the 5 GHz version and bought 2,4 😀

Unfortenatelly I am facing many problems when starting to use the drone: When I used the controller outside in the greens, there was a lag between pushing the joystick and the reaction of the drone of about 2 seconds. Even worse, it only had a range of about 5 meters for reaction, but automatically stopped when it lost signal. Controlling it with the app didn't work at all l, the joystick wouldnt react at all, although I could get live view and do fotos. Although a microSD was installed, I wasn't able to take any video. And finally the worst: at the end I wasn't able to fly the drone in any direction or rotation at all. With a new battery pack being installed, it could be lifted (manually or automatically) but the joysticks wouldn't work…. Given the number of problems I am facing, I wonder if it is really me and my lack of knowledge or the drone itself… I had much less problems flying a cheap $25 drone…

It would be wonderful if you or anybody else could get me a hint on what is wrong …

Also I am having problems to load the batteries, tried two different chargers but the battery won't load, green blinking light would stay there forever end ever…

  9. It's toilet bowling because that’s how you're calibrating it!!! Spin the drone, not yourself holding it!!!! Apparently you've been watching some bad habits.

  10. Hi there Quadcopter Guy! Great vids, very instructive. Recently You mentioned a free or shareware video editing 'ware that you used, i didn't get the name of it. Could you let us know what? And where are you located with those gorgeous mountains in the distance. Thanks.

  11. I purchased the E511S 5G 1080p without realising it won't work on my mobile
My question is if I replace the camera or the receiver will it work on my mobile then?
