Mars and Moon colonies are a pipe dream. Humans need so much maintenance to stay healthy on Earth let alone another planetary body.
What about medical emergencies? You would have to send multiple surgeons and dentists that can perform in lunar or martian gravity. Be able to make all types of drugs or bring enough for nearly all scenarios. Appendicitis or even a abscessed tooth can kill you.
Going to Mars? Send a lander probe that can incubate a monkey's embryo after it lands. Raise it inside and see how the radiation and low gravity effects it before you think about taking a human there.
Close to 60% of all spacecraft have failed landing on Mars.
Foot prints from astronauts but non from the Lander foot pads or rocket.
