Fmr Director US Mint: "Bitcoin is good competition for Gold and Fiat"

Ed Moy, who was the 38th Director of the United States Mint, and one of the highest ranking government officials to have spoken out favorably about Bitcoin in its earliest days, at a time when NO ONE in government was talking about it.

I chat with him about huge increase in the demand for gold that he saw during the Great Recession when he was in charge of the mint, why gold has perceived value rather than intrinsic value, the need for bitcoin and a money not controlled by government, and what regulation might look like in bitcoin’s future, according to his insider perspective.

  1. lol. baby shark, so true. It seems that if BTC gets used for micro payments in real time by private companies, the government will have no way of getting in the middle of that although they are quite resourceful too and will probably invent tiny straws.

  2. 1st time subscriber after watchimg you & Josh on WAM, great interview that one and this one too, thank you.

  3. Mad props on your interviewing style! Generally speaking interviewers fall into one of two camps: those with a list of preconceived questions that they strictly adhere to & those who carefully listen to what the guest is telling them to formulate their next questions. It's obvious to me ( as part of my duties at work I host a radio talk show so I'm a geek about interviewing) that you're in the second group & that's exactly where you want to be. Dick Cavett said" the best interviews aren't interviews at all, they're conversations" & you've got that down to a science. THX again for all your hard work, I'm already looking forward to your next video!

  4. Anytime you find someone who was a "former" representative of the government. It's only then that you're actually going to get their best opinion.

  5. Having lost so much as a beginner in trading, being desperate and on the verge of giving up, i was introduced to an expert trader who under her mentorship and with her expertise in account management, converted my $100 to $1500 within a week!!, Shocked to my boots I invested more and within a short span of time ,regained my losses and made mouth watering profits!!. Monica Alana woods is the woman for the job, she is an expert trader and account manager, contact her on WhatsApp +1 702 514 0852 or @bitcoin_moma.
I just couldn't keep this to myself and I guarantee a wonderful experience.

  6. That ending hit me in a funny way.. I stopped the video just before your ending and drove my fiance to work and my son to his baby sitters. When I hit play again and heard baby shark, I really was confused for a moment.

  7. Using Math to Prove that Bitcoin WILL FAIL!

    1) Failure to scale.

Bitcoin transactions per day is around 400k transactions.

    https://www.blockchain.com/en/charts

Global digital payments forecast for 2020 is around 2 billion transactions per day.

    https://www.cnbc.com/2017/10/09/digital-payments-expected-to-hit-726-billion-by-2020-study-finds.html

For Bitcoin to replace fiat currency it would need to handle over 5000 times more transactions than it currently does today (2B/400k = 5000). This means that just maintaining the current performance would require 5000 times greater computing power!

    2) Failure on energy usage.

Bitcoin accounts for 66.7 terawatt-hours per year or 0.2% of all global electricity usage.
    https://www.vox.com/2019/6/18/18642645/bitcoin-energy-price-renewable-china

This equates to 5000 x 0.2% = 1000% of the total global electricity usage (i.e. 10 times more electricity than is currently consumed by the entire planet!). And this just for Bitcoin alone!

    3) Failure on speed.

Bitcoin's average transaction confirmation time is 10 minutes.

    https://www.statista.com/statistics/793539/bitcoin-transaction-confirmation-time/

With 5000 times more transactions to process, Bitcoin's average transaction confirmation times would slow to 10 minutes x 5000 = 35 days!!!

    4) * THE END *

  8. Natural state of being of an individual is independence. Only for love people will declare to be dependent on each other. Govt is just a midterm cultural temporary help utility that has got to transition into an advisory body concerned with the natural sovereign state of individuals.

  9. What a lovely gentleman. Who says all old people don't get it?

Something a bit fishy towards the end. You're crazy Nomes – even more reason to love your work ?

  10. Ed Moy … "… fiat has value because the government tells you it has value … its by law … I'd rather have the market tell me that …" -> WRONG!!!
Fiat currencies are IOU's and the value IS determined by the MARKET based on the ability of the country to meet its obligations, which is determined by the value and strength in its economy. In the case of Bitcoin, this is a valueless token that has usefulness as a medium for exchange, but it is not an IOU and has no way to meet its obligations, because it is technically worthless, relying on pure speculation alone to remain solvent. Considering Ed Moy worked for the US Mint he is pretty clueless about money.

  11. I'm of the opinion that bitcoin will rule all currency and will replace gold. Crypto being adopted by PSG, Amazon Deal and John McAfee predicting that 1Btc will be equal to 1million dollars. Well for me and my Pro trader, we believe that there is so much grow for bitcoin in the future. Sadly only a few of the world population have adopted crypto currency.I just started trading bitcoin 3 month ago and with the help of Benjamin Jackson, I have been able to trade successfully, having 18 BTC in my wallet.Truth be told i had no idea of what bitcoins was or even how to trade ,complied with so much doubt and fear to take a risk, but after several contact with Mr. Jackson, his regular signals, strategies and timely Alert i have been able to make some good money for myself, all from the initial 2btc i invested. If you have fears of your trade or have no idea of what crypto trading is all about, i would advice you seek help and guidance so that you don't lose your money. Reach him on Email/hangout @ Benjaminjacksontv@ gmail .Com or via telegram @BenjaminJackson and thank me later…Cheers everyone and Good luck.

  12. Gold has fractal electrons. This is why it lights up areas of the brain. Super connectivity. Bch by being more shareable than btc makes bch more fractal than btc.
