3. 7:12 The issue at Deribit was not really a malfunction of their index. It was the lack of a failsafe switch. The original issue was that Coinbase Pro – which had an equal weight in the Deribit index – had no quotes for about an hour (basically BTC price = $0) and this caused the dip: (9150 + 9148 + 9155 + 0 + 9147) / 5 = 7320 So the major f*ckup was caused by Coinbase Pro. But yes, still huge f*ckup of Deribit. Deribit should have had protection mechanisms and a failsafe switch in place, which don't allow the price of an exchange to be included in the index calculation if there is a huge deviation in the reported price from one exchange compared to the other exchanges.

6. Yea that deribit issue is very shitty service on their side. This same issue happened on Bitmax a while back and they did exactly what you said should have been done. They just rolled back the transactions on both sides like nothing happened and neither side was effected.

Crown spot on about the lack of rollback. the reason they did this was pure PR. rolling back the trades is not as good PR as claiming HEY WERE GIVING OUT 1.5MILLION in refunds and everyone else who profited undeservedly gets to keep the profits. im digusted also. now the charts are totally fucked up because of that wick. indicators get screwed up. any normal exchange would roll it back. but for PR purposes it was a better scenario to be able to claim all the refunds handed out. so wrong.
