Returnal Review

Returnal’s runs are too long for their own good, but the moment-to-moment action is phenomenal in this surprisingly lengthy and deep third-person shooter …

  1. im a grown man born in the 80s with multiple consoles with lots of games…i cant dedicate my time to beating a game with no saves like im some try hard 15 year old with no responsibilities….this game NEEDS the option of an autosave, they can implement it has…"save mode option, but no platinum trophy", problem solved

  2. This game is too niche for my liking. 80% of people that tried this game ended up getting rid of. The lack of saves, the repetitive dying and starting over, the lack of objectives and narration it’s not your standard game. It’s that 20% that will love it like crazy. But most gamers will drop the game after awhile before finishing it. I’ve watched it happen to 5 of my friends including myself.

  3. how much Death Stranding and PT influence does this have?
Trying to figure out if its just borrowed groundhog day sci fi or if there is something more unique here.

  4. At the crash site you can turn off the PS5 or switch to anything else without losing anything or it counting as a death. And at the start of every level except the first you pick up an item that increases your weapon proficiency to match what you’d have had you grinded earlier levels, which absolutely shortens runs to a manageable length, unless you never die. Some of these criticisms are very misleading.

  5. Yeah, that save feature alone sadly makes this game a pass for me. It's odd because this game looks to be marked for adults. But adults work for a living. We often only have 30 minute windows in an evening to play a game. Game systems with rest modes are a huge feature to maximize short gaming periods. Howwver, saving has been a base feature since the SNES days. Games that limit saves feel like a big step backwards.

Sure, for those who want the challenge and long sessions can go right ahead, but adding a quick save or a 20 minute checkpoint save would make the game more approachable to more people.

  6. The lack of a save feature is to prevent people from save scumming (reloading a save over and over) which would make the game less of a challenge and basically undermine the risk/reward mechanics the game offers. It would also greatly shorten the game.

  7. One thing about the review: if you're decent at the game, you don't have to go through all optional rooms or biomes to beat the bosses, and there are shortcuts that you can unlock once you go through the entirety of the biome to make it shorter. You can completely skip fractured waste and crimson waste and still have a great chance at beating the final boss if you have a decently leveled dreadbound or hollowseeker.

  8. Played for 8 hours without dying. Lots of HP, bunch of upgrades, about 8,000 obolites, 27 Ethers and 4 keys all gone because my PS5 crashed while going on Rest Mode. There should be a save mode for turning off the system. Im 100% fine with dying and starting over while playing!!

  9. This game came with a bundle and looks like it's immediately worth trading in. Especially after this douchey review.
