7 New M-Performance Sports Cars Taking New BMW Lineup to the Extreme

It is not kind of BMW to take away jobs from independent workshops, but this German brand prefers to enhance their vehicles in-house under an independent BMW M division. Established back in 1972, the subsidiary that was initially responsible only for the motorsport racing program, currently produces the most recognizable models with BMW’s badging. This episode will be a follow up to the new 2021 Bayerische Motoren Werke lineup review, and will feature only the highest performing M vehicles.

Scheduled to start deliveries in early 2021, the M4 Coupe shares its underpinning and overall design with the non-performance coupe, but gets a few exclusive exterior accents. Its frameless kidney grille integrates large air intakes for proper engine cooling, there is a new carbon fiber reinforced plastic roof, while the rear is dominated by the new diffuser and 4 large exhaust pipes.

2021 brings a mid-cycle facelift for the M5 performance sedan, that now comes with sharper front facia design, new air intakes and slimmer LED headlights. Mechanically, the model remains unchanged, though the M5 competition does get revised shock absorbers and a new Track mode.

#4 2021 BMW M 1000 RR

#5 2021 BMW M3 and BMW M3 Competition

After a 2-year hiatus, the new BMW M3 returns to the market, inhering a lot of styling cues from the new 2021 M4 coupe. Their resemblance is so pronounced that inattentive eyes might not see the difference between the two until they count the number of doors.

#6 2021 BMW X5 M & BMW X6 M Competition First Edition

BMW’s flagship performance crossovers have been on sale since the beginning of 2020, but somehow the exclusive First Edition trim was delayed until next year. Limited to just 250 units for each SUV, the FE modifications are building up on the top specced M-Competition packages.

#7 BMW 128ti

This might not be a fully-fledged M-model, but the BMW 128ti definitely deserves to be at the helm of the pack as the first real front wheel drive alternative to the VW Golf GTi hot hatchback.

#8 2021 BMW M2 CS and BMW M2 CS Racing

While the M version of the BMW 2 Series is already a “no limits” machine, the company is making an attempt to turn it into a true track beast. The M2 CS becomes lighter and gets CFRP bonnet, roof, aerodynamic parts. The reworked 6-cyllinder engine nets 450 horses and 406 lb-ft of torque, cutting down 0-60 acceleration time to 3.8 seconds.

  1. The KITH looks stronger and bulkier than the m5 but itself is weaker than the m5, I think they should have replaced the m5 competition with a "m5 KITH" model which goes like 700hp or something
