Top 10 Electric Muscle Cars that Swapped V8 Engines for E-Motors and Batteries

Since in the traditional sense, muscle cars are V8 powered rear wheel drive machines, it is hard to imagine how an electric vehicle could fall under this definition.

But if we were expand the term and take into consideration the classic retro looks and class specific performance characteristics, like massive torque and instant acceleration, then emerges a very interesting lineup of modern electric muscle cars. Today we will be exploring the models that already exist and attempt to convert petrol heads into the disciples of EV community.

Mustang Lithium: media.ford.com/content/fordmedia/fna/us/en/news/2019/11/05/webasto-ford-team-up-mustang-lithium-battery-electric-mustang-car-sema.html

Sooner or later we will be seeing a production-ready electric version of the modern Ford Mustang, but for now lets stay content with the concept developed alongside Webasto, named Project Lithium.

Charge Mustang: charge.cars

With the scheduled run of 499 units, the Charge Mustang is probably the closest we are getting to a production version of the electric muscle car with classic American-style, which, surprise-surprise, is not being developed, nor manufactured in the US.

Chevy Camaro eCopo: pschevy.com/eCOPO-Chevy-Camaro

Chevy is not planning to develop the next generation of their iconic pony car. However, this doesn’t mean that the moniker will not live on as a performance electric vehicle. This claim is strongly supported by the media hype created by the one-off electric drag racer eCopo Camaro.

Ford Mustang Zombie 222: bloodshedmotors.com

Able to outperform most ICE and electric muscle cars and many hypercars, the Zombie 222 by the Texas-based Bloodshed Motors has record-setting 0-60 of 1.79 seconds and can run a quarter mile in 9.89 seconds.

Genovation GXE: genovationcars.com

Many fans of the segment would disagree that a Corvette could be labeled a muscle car, but in my books the C7 Grand Sport is indeed a modern version of the one, and so is the upcoming electric Genovation GXE which is built over the Vette’s skeleton.

Peugeot E-Legend: peugeot.ua/brand-and-technology/concept-cars/e-legend-concept.html

Luckily for the fans of iconic retro coupes, the futuristic approach of the Peugeot e-Legend remains reminiscent of the 504 2-door manufactured back in 1970.

Renovo Coupe: renovo.auto

The Renovo Coupe was created by the California startup company which specializes in the development of software for self-driving cars. The EV was built of the original Shelby Dayton, an iconic sports coupe of the past.

Aviar R67: aviarmotors.com

2019 Aviar R67 is a brainchild of a Russian electric vehicle start-up, Aviar Motors, that sources its exterior from the first-generation Ford Mustang, but keeps it Tesla-like under the hood.

Chevrolet E-10: media.chevrolet.com/media/us/en/chevrolet/home.detail.html/content/Pages/news/us/en/2019/nov/sema/1104-e10.html

A hot rod is basically a custom built muscle car, so meet the E-10 concept by Chevrolet, which is a classic design reimagination of a pickup powered by an electric powertrain.

Ford Mustang Mach-E: ford.com/suvs/mach-e/2021

Probably a little hesitant to rebuild their most iconic model into a production EV. right away, instead, Ford chose to manufacture a Mustang named electric crossover labeled Mach-E, which pays homage to the “Mach 1” moniker.

  1. The Mustang Lithium Fastback is my favorite, just because it still has the Proper 6 Speed Manual Transmission the other Classic Fastbacks are good too
Now down side to EV's.. I live in the state of California and the not so smart Liberals thought that in 2035 only EV's should be sold… Then Biden came along and said this will apply to the rest of the Nation. Great Britain followed with the same year. Japan said it will be in 2030 for them…. Now here's the Catch since the state & Federal Government: uses the Tax on the fuel pump if there is less money to repair or add new roads due to expanding population… from the petrol pump or gasoline pump. The EV's are online all the time, the owners are going to be Taxed per miles driven in the same way those who use the Fast Track lanes…. Now to get back to reality of the State who Started it all… The state is currently having trouble with the electric grid, and last year I have had family loose power for 5 days in Southern California.. it was 105 degrees F to 126 degree F on 1 of the days frigerated foods got spoiled… they didn't have air conditioning not generator. No way to charge cell phones or pay their bills online….. Things which democrats don't think of….. kind of like when a democrat proposed the state of California becomes it's own state. Someone forgot to tell him the how the state was bought. The Nation won't allow it then last years fires they asked for government assistance from Trump to help pay for the Super Scooper Air drop of fire retardants… Also, most democrats believe Abraham Lincoln was a Democrat too////… save the 6 speed manual transmission

  2. Imagine where we would be today if BIG OIL didn't KILL the electric car in the early 1900's? We could have had great cars and a better cleaner earth.

  3. This is the world's most aggravating euro computer voice. What were they thinking?……as far as the cars are concerned, here they dont have a clue; if you build a classic reproduction is the CHASSIS AND Suspension
you put it on. Sure elec cars go fast in a straight line…(a LOT of hotter gas cars can and do catch elects at the end of the quarter/1000 ft) but worst than that, on many of these $$$$ elec represents and exotics the HANDLING IS surprisingly sub par…so its not what trick batteries or how close your control is to true AI…its what the car does in terms of OVERALL performance. AND how reliable/how affordable to run and maintain/and how low maintenance

  4. “Surprise surprise the mustang charge is not being produced in the US”
I guess that means that we primitive Americans aren’t taking to electrics, while Tesla is arguably the reason EV’s are being taken seriously and can you remind me again where that company is based?
Oh and hot rods aren’t necessarily muscle cars, hot rodding started in the early 20th century and was done by kids taking whatever hot motor was available and putting it into older lighter cars. Muscle cars didn’t show up until 1964 with pontiacs GTO. And the Mach E is not a mustang, putting lipstick on a pig does not make it a supermodel

  5. I’m happy I didn’t see Dodge on this list there the only brand staying true to its roots which is one of the reasons there my favorite car brand

  6. Genovation looks a bit like a gtr from the rear, and I noticed most of these have outlet brake rotors. Inset is always better for weight distribution

  7. The problem is most of these aren't affordable at all. I understand why a restoration swap would cost alot but regular production cars can't cost thatuch if you want everyday people to buy them

  8. Not only Tesla in 2011 who created the electric cars and the cybertruck as well know theres muscle cars that swapped their engine into electrics i did not exspect that !

  9. Just a quick question for you all: would like a car with great design and good mileage or car with normal -to-toyota design but better mileage?

  10. An electric Mustang, hell no. I guess if I get one I can put my battery operated robot sex doll in the passenger seat, seems appropriate.
