  1. I can't wait to see Apple attempting to sell this USB-C as a "new revolutionary feature with incredible speed" in iPhone 14.

  2. 10:35 Have you not read the proposal? It specifically addresses this issue of any new wired standard/port coming out in the future, so that we are not stuck with USB-C, and it even talks about the future need to adopt a wireless charging standard:
    >- allow for future harmonisation in this area in response to technological developments,
    > including harmonisation of any type of charging interface other than wired charging;

  3. uhhh, apple innovating? Aren't most of their innovations basically a "another company did this 10 years ago, but ours is better"? I'll it to them for the incremental upgrades, but they almost NEVER actually invented anything. At best their invention was something that is part of the incremental upgrade to something else.

  4. Are you telling me that you dispize that kids toy with the dirrerent shaped/colored blocks and the shapes cut out in a board….or….
The kids who can't manage it easily….or….
The cable manufacturer was afraid to make one side a different color for the children?

  5. Right to Repair reference.
The Auto Industry, to justify selling a product that was most likely to be financed, was forced to make parts available for 10 (ten) years after the model year. By law.

Laws like this have been disappearing from State and Federal Constitutions lately (ish).

    Ask why.

  6. Apple already uses USB C on a lot of their other products, iPad, macbooks, so they should just make the switch on iPhones. They should've done it ages ago, or at least this year with the 13. They're looking a bit silly at this point.

  7. The EU motivation is reducing ewaste, and ensuring that the draws full of operational but useless proprietary chargers for long gone gadgets are a thing of the past and not our future. The rules go further, you cannot have proprietary usb-c cables/chargers with an enhanced charging speed. They have been working with industry to achieve this for years without the need for laws and there is only hold out, apple. so this is a law to simply deal with apple exceptionalism.

Unfortunately the EU grinds slowly and yes it will take a long time for this to change in the future, hence their interest in getting industry to voluntary comply.

this does have implications to right to repair, clearly manufacturers will game the legislation as much as they can and unless there are pricing controls, i fear that they will simply sell the parts at a price that makes it uneconomic to repair.

  8. 3:10 ….L.R. free tips.
Verify cam is off before this happens to you.

    Get out of your chair.
    Breathe.
    Delete this video.
Try explaining what "Right to Repair" 's significance is to consumers, not you and your ways n means.
Leave bitterness of stupidity for someone else on uTube.
    Breathe.

    Find some light.

  9. 02:13 You don't seem to understand how USB Type C works. It's just a physical plug. Just because something is using USB Type C plug, that doesn't imply fast data transfer rates. The actual data transfer speed is dictated by the USB standard being used: USB 2.0, USB 3.0, USB 3.1, USB 3.2, USB 4.0, etc.
USB 2.0 and 3.2 both can be used over USB Type C plug, yet have day and night transfer speed difference.
I will give you that it is rare to see USB 2.0 Type C, but it is a thing, so the generalization that "Type C = fast" is incorrect. If you want to talk about data transfers speeds, you should not be talking about the physical plug interfaces but the data transfer standards: USB 2.0, USB 3.0, etc. – that would be the correct way to approach what you are trying to say.

  10. Like I said in another video, don't make me defend Apple. They can use a retard port if their retard customers will still buy it. I call Apple owners "slave owners" at this point.

  11. This is something that shouldn’t be regulated. When something better than usbc comes out it will become an issue when a company tries to replace it.

  12. I’d ask that you don’t call them the European Government – that’s exactly what they want. Call them the European Union or European Council. I’m a European, I’m British. I’m not a citizen under control of the European Union due to Brexit. It’s a ridiculous amount of politics over here but yeah, they’re not a government just yet, despite how much they want it.

  13. In an ideal world, the mandate would be about specs and not the connector per se, or be worded in a way that allows a "USB C or better", but alas… maybe if the mandate was time limited, like, for the next 5 years, new devices need to have USB C, after which it expires.

On the other hand, radically new connectors and/or transfer protocols are bound to be first implemented on larger devices like laptops, which have the real estate to afford USB C and the new connector, which should satisfy the regulation, and give some buffer for the legislation to change… though I'd much rather have Apple pull its head out of its ass

  14. I really don't like government getting in the way of what companies do with their products, but I do like Apple getting fucked over like that.
Not like I'd ever be caught dead with an Iphone anyway.

  15. I am a big EU fanboy, the EU has done an awful lot for it's members. It has brought about peace and prosperity that have not existed in the 2000 years previously.
But forcing all manufacturers to use USB-C is fcuking regarded.
They should force right to repair legislation.
The charging port idea is from the 2000's, it's fcuking stupid and it has been approved by a caball of faceless middle-aged men in grey suits who's understanding of technology stops at fax machines and VCRs.
It's beyond idiotic. They might as well force the manufactures to make every phone green with pink polkadots.

  16. I wholeheartedly agree with your burning hate toward Lightning and Micro USB. One of the things I also hate about Micro-USB is that it is literally the flimsiest connector I've ever stumbled across. Those things will snap off their cable with the smallest bit of resistance. Also, no matter who makes the cable, the build quality always seems like it's from a Chinese sweatshop because of how much of a poorly designed connector it is.

  17. The reality is that most phone and electronics companies have created a council precisely regarding the USB plugs since… cant remember the year but just before or after USB Micro-B. The council deliberates and reviews new design itterations of USB plugs which the council members will adopt withing their platforms… this is where the innovation comes from, dont get me wrong it wont go as fast or crazy as a individual country but a case like lightning port in 2020/2021 wont happen.
The USB council will long be designing a nieuwer USB itteration…

However most importantly! The EU is mostly interested in this for the issue regarding E-waste…cables and chargers can simply last longer than the platform cycle… remember back in the day all the barrel charging ports and different voltages related to each of them??? Well… lightning port is that to the EU… unnecessary production leading to more e waste… now the naming and certification efforts of USB are very bureaucratic and difficult to understand and they are failing at it… but the principle is good…

In conclusion the innovation is still there as all companies input into the design of next gen USB within the Council… which the EU will automatically adopt… unless the design itteration renders previous gens completely obsolete too soon after the previous gens launch… but that wont happen because council members will hurt their own platform sales… so the transition will be managed.

Production and cost will be reduced as USB-C licensing will cheaper and more accesible than any other option for platform producers and accesory producers… this will help with the right to repair because Apple cant limit the sale of USB-C ports and the standardization of them ensures that off the shelf units will match apples use..

This doesnt prevent apple from making them impossible to replace via mechanical or software means but thats just apple being a dick….

  18. No government should dictate what technology can a device or machine use, that's how you get stucked 10-20 years with the same crap till some fat ass bureaucrat decides to give a f- about it.

  19. I think we mostly think about USB technology as "readily available", however Apple using their own hardware, makes it possible for them to not sell the parts.

  20. USB… C…
Yeah… the connector where you have 3v3 tolerant data lanes alongside a 20v power line, which… when you damage the cable, and you will, will blow 20v directly in the CPU alongside the blackbox USB-C transceivers.

  21. Something that I appreciated about lightning when I've interacted with it is it's far easier to clean lint out of a lightning port than a USB-C or micro USB-B port. I agree that USB 2.0 speeds are shameful in 2021, and that apple proprietary bad, but these days it's somewhat of an open standard, there are so many chinese clones, but I find that the port is easier to clean, the connector feels sturdier in general, and for most users it's good enough(tm). I don't use apple devices, I have no horse in this race, I just think a lot of people make a bigger issue of this than it's worth. If it's that big a deal to you, don't buy the phone.

  22. I do not blame Apple for not including untill now a usb c on iphone … (is included on other products ) i blame the clients who defend lighting … so i skip this iphone , the 12S (🤪13) for this reason . Usb C on Iphone should be implemented a long time ago , but seems dificult when lots of clients are just pure blind and defend some ancient tehnology … they claim also innovation … where is the inovation on Apple ? They implement 120 hz display after all world already have it , whwe is touch id ? But we have a big noch , lighting slow and expensive … The only thing Apple have good is the OS and suppor for much longer time for the products , but innovation? What the usless wirless charger and magnets ? 😂

  23. If the EU was like your local government, the EU would follow this standardization with a roundup of all other format cables and driving over them with bulldozers while someone gives a silly speech.

  24. Louis, they asked you because you're in the eyes of most people, extremely knowledgeable on the subject of technology and thus they want your expert opinion on the subject.
