THIS IS MY FULL TIME JOB. Here are other ways that you can support me: https://www.fpvknowitall.com/support-me/

I’ve created a video series that shows even a total beginner how to build an FPV quadcopter. The videos show every single step of building and setting up the drone, in the kind of meticulous (but still easy to follow) detail that I’m known for. If you’ve got any questions, JB is monitoring the YouTube comments, and there is a Discord server chat channel for more immediate help.

This video series is about more than just giving you a finished quad that you can fly. It’s about teaching you how to build a quad, the right way, including all the little steps that are often overlooked.

In addition, you will need to source the following:

* Zip ties, 8″ length (to hold antennas and receiver)
* Heat shrink, 3/32″ diamter, 2″ length, quantity 2 (4″ total length)
* Double sided tape for receiver, 1/2″ x 1″ — use double-sided foam tape, “servo tape”, Scotch Extreme Mounting Tape, or similar.

  1. What do you do if you want to use redundant receivers and what does that actually accomplish? Also, do the redundant receivers have to be the same, or can one be the xsr and one be a x4rsb?

  2. Hi! Joshua Bardwell. I just went through your video series and few other videos on how to make a drone (build a drone under $99). I had a trouble finding your Bardwell's Budget Build Kit on internet as it's out of stock. So can I use the the drone parts used in this video https://bit.ly/2RlAnZF or https://bit.ly/2OXi1kR to build my drone and follow your instructions on setting up the receiver and transmitter, and all the other stuff you have done on your computer? In short I just want to use different drone parts (not your Bardwell's Budget Build Kit ) and follow your instructions on setting up the drone on computer. Please guide me with this. Also Kindly check the video links, there the person has missed out to setup the transmitter so i am confused what to do. Will this work?
    Thanking you in anticipation

  3. JB; Love this build series. Thanks. Question: I've had now 3 R-XSR receivers. All 3; that tiny little bind button has slid off the board. Causing me to have to short the tiny traces to get it to bind. Super difficult, but does work! Tips?

  4. I'm wondering why it´s not possible to wire sbus and smartbus to the same UART, e.g. to RX4 and TX4. The KAKUTE F7 manual like all other FC manuals tell to wire these buses to TX and RX of different UARTs. Why? What is the technical explanation for this. Also, is there a reason why you didn't use the fport solution with one wire only? Is fport still not ready to be fully trusted?

    By the way, I love your videos. It made me confident to build my own freestyle quad and to enter the FPV hobby. I just finished successfully my LOS maiden flight today. Now I just need to practice, practice and practice to be able to pull all those stunts you guys (and gals) do. 😀

  5. Does it really matte if I use a temperature controlled soldering iron? I have a soldering gun, and it heats up to 1135 F as its maximum. I havent started making this build but I've been watching all of the previous episodes. Also how does the camera work? Do we connect it through phone to see it? And is the video of the drone flying at the end the drone that we are making? Sorry for the questions. I'm new and curious.

  6. Are you not a fan of Loctite? Are you disassembling/assembling your quads often enough to be ensuring that all screws are tight? Just curious…

  7. Just to confirm, you used 2 different uarts for the receiver tx4 and rx6, I haven't been able to get telemetry with the rxsr, I can't wait to see the config video.

  8. This series is fantastic. Thanks to you and RR for making it happen. Joshua, don't you have a video that covers the two sets (3,2) of beeps when powering up the quad?

  9. Any reason to use those specific R and T pads on the FC? Isn't it just possible to use T1 and R1 and select them through the betaflight software?

  10. Tips for antenna mounting (the receiver ones) if you put the antennas under neath the zip-tie, then they will have a much less chance of getting chopped with the propellers. Also if you use thicker zip ties, they will have a less chance of getting bent up into the propellers.
