Visuo XS809HW Altitude Hold Folding FPV 720p HD Camera Drone Flight Test Review

This cheap folding FPV drone records relatively good 720p HD video. Throw it in your backpack and take it hiking. Buy it here https://goo.gl/gnbLgB Spare batteries here https://goo.gl/9mZ3SS NOTE THAT THE CURRENT VERSION NOW BEING SHIPPED ALL CONTAIN THE ALTITUDE HOLD FEATURE. Non altitude hold XS809W have all been sold out.
And also note that there is also a cheaper low resolution 0.3MP version (does not have 720p HD camera). Don’t be a cheapskate, as you will definitely regret it later when you see the poor video that it produces.

Pros
– The quadcopter’s arms are foldable to make it very portable, such as in a backpack (similar to DJI Mavic Pro).
– Altitude hold version provides relatively stable flight for more steady video. (Note, the current version being shipped is now only available with altitude hold)
– Excellent flight time of close to 10 minutes.
– Can be controlled and flown via its controller or your smartphone/tablet. Controller buttons are all well labeled.
– Records relatively good quality 720p 20fps HD FPV video directly to a microSD memory card inserted into the quadcopter. Will also record video to your phone via WiFi, however the WiFi transmitted video is of lower VGA resolution.
– Camera lens can be swiveled up (to view sky and horizon), or down (to eliminate props from camera view)
– XSW UFO app is available on Google Play here https://goo.gl/r4fJdd and itunes here https://goo.gl/2m6Vyh
– Good control and FPV range of about 80 meters.
– Headless mode and one key return.

Cons
– Proprietary battery.
– Now only available with altitude hold. Intermediate pilots and above may miss having more responsive throttle control of a non altitude hold quadcopter.

  1. Buy the 720p HD version here https://goo.gl/gnbLgB Spare batteries here https://goo.gl/9mZ3SS NOTE THAT THE CURRENT VERSION NOW BEING SHIPPED ALL CONTAIN THE ALTITUDE HOLD FEATURE. Non altitude hold XS809W have all been sold out.
DO NOT select the cheaper 0.3MP version ( does not have 720p HD camera ). I do not recommend the 0.3MP version as it produces poor video .

  2. I bought that drone but I don't have anything on the picture/filming buttons of my controller. They're just blank. Is there a reason why your has it?

  3. Can u send me a still photo of the drone please? I need a photo for my project which doesn’t have copyrights and there are currently none online labelled for reuse.

  4. quadcopter 101 help me ,I have this machine 1.when I'm pressing home return button it goes anywhere 2. head less mode (360degree )is not working please anyone help me if there is any alternative way to do this

  5. i just recieved mine today and its my first day ever trying a drone i bought this very same drone. im trying to learn how the damn thing works the manuel doesnt tell u much about what the app icons mean i was hoping to see if u would tell me in video

  6. guys the camera is better than he shows. I ordered one and I was surprised by the video quality… The video quality is like a iPods camera. Which is decent but a old version of iPod it still has a camera that is quite good

  7. Couple questions (i'm very new to drones):
    1) good for absolute beginners?
    2) does it work indoors (large gym)?
    3) can it take still pictures?

  8. I JUST ordered this drone today for my birthday…thanks to YOU…My choice was easy….you did a fantastic job advertising this drone. You should tell the company they OWE you one…because you brought them a customer. what sold me on this drone….and you can tell the company this…..what sold me on the drone…was the SIMPLE micro sd card that records from the camera…this is a HUGE feature. Tell the company that…because phones run out of space…so to have an independant card is awesome. now…if it only had a follow me sensor on it…that would be awesome….with all the other features….plus…if they put a catch hook on the bottom of the drone with a set up to catch items from the ground with the hook…that would be cool too. tell them these ideas…keep the ideas…have them send you a couple of drones for FREE for advertising them…they should do it…john from kansas.

  9. My observation as a novice Drone pilot … I purchased the Hubsan X4 Desire H502e and then the VISUO XS809HW drones.

I really like your reviews – they were very informative.

My observations about the VISUO XS809HW:
    – much harder for me to fly. I crashed it more times and harder than the Hubsan and the VISUO still survives, while a motor in the Hubsan quit and I returned it to Amazon.
    – body and motors seem much higher quality
    – I actually prefer the plug in battery over having to fiddle with the connector and stuffing it back in the tight compartment on the Hubsan
    – I could not get Headless Mode to work properly – and the beeping is annoying.
    – It drifts continually – trims do not seem to work.
    – Making photos and video is much harder than the Hubsan. Never felt that was reliable.
    – I like the larger size over the Hubsan along with the fold out arms
    – I had thought the FPV using a Smartphone would be pretty cool – naah, that was a PITA.
    – The micro SD card can be inserted without making electrical contact.

My observations about the Hubsan X4 Desire H502e:
    – much easier to fly, seems much more stable with little drift. The VISUO was constantly drifting.
    – I thought the batteries were more clunky to deal with versus the VISUO
    – calibrating the GPS before each flight was a pain – but it made for a more enjoyable flying experience
    – Motors seem less durable. One of mine was intermittent starting up and finally just stopped working. AND, I never had any hard crashes like I have had with the VISUO. So the Hubsan is more delicate.
    – Picture taking and Video was easy and effort free.
    – Documentation about putting on the propellers never mentioned that two were left-hand threads – just use the black screws for one set, silver screws for the other set. In addition,
I had some additional screws that had a larger head on them – what are they for?
    – The micro SD card plugs in and comes out with no issues.

I think a really nice Drone could be made from the two of them – basically the VISUO with the flying characteristics of the Hubsan. That would be deleting the FPV, install a GPS, and make
Headless mode work properly along with Return to Home.

I lost my VISUO yesterday afternoon. It seemed to not respond to controls and it looked to me like it flew into a tree. I heard it hit the branches. Looked for some time up in the tree. Then today while trying to find it in the tree with binoculars a neighbor came by asking what we were doing. Wife said we were trying to find a lost drone. Neighbor said, I've got it, and gave it back to me. Apparently it flew into trees hitting branches and then flew across street to edge of woods near the back yard of his property – well over 300 ft from where I was standing and over 200 ft from the darn tree that I thought it was in. So I have it and it still works but its like a child with a mind of its own 🙂

  10. What does the Visuo XS809HW do when you fly it out of range of the controller?
I'm new with Drones and ordered one based on your review and was just wondering.
