A new feature of Virtual Desktop was hidden in the last update which enables you to use it like ALVR/VRidge and play PC VR games on your Quest and Go.

  1. Virtual Desktop is great, I am having issues with setting up room scale though on Steam VR via my Oculus Quest.. Could you do a video of how you set up the boundaries please

  2. Does this actually work for VR mode? I have a 5G AC router and it also shows the transfer rate is 860M, my computer is a VR-ready PC that can play all of the VR games quite well. Getting Virtual Desktop working on the quest is not much of a problem, ONLY VR is really laggy when I tried to stream any of my VR games to the Quest. Why? What am I doing wrong?

  3. Okay, huge question: How do you get your game to run behind the desktop like that? Try as I might, I can't get it to work!

  4. I managed to make it work. It is not perfect, I had 20 minutes trying to make the sound work and finally I resolved it by entering Steam VR setup and changing the audio to my headset. My PC configuration is i7 4790K with GeForce GTX970 and 16 GB RAM. The experience is good but from time to time my PC lags. Steam VR sees the Oculus Quest as a Rift but I encountered a strange error playing Freediver: Triton Down. Though the Steam VR sees the Headset as Oculus and the controllers as legacy touch controllers, in the game I have Vive controllers. I simply could not make the game to show Oculus Touch controllers. Any help will be highly appreciated. The game is playable as it is but pressing the thumb-sticks to grab something is not great.

  5. I don't understand why so many say it looks good. It looks terrible, res is super low and bitrate is so low all looks blurry and bad. Latency is good yes but it looks totally crap.

ALVR looks beautiful with 150% res and 100mbit/s bitrate and good latency around 55-70ms no package lost. And one more thing the controlers feel so delayed compared to ALVR witch is almost as good as regular quest home screen almost.

So my question, am i doing something wrong or do people not understand how to run ALVR?

Just not to sound mean its just my insight of buying VD after people said it was so good. I just wanted to support an official app and dev. Don't get me wrong i am super stocked about remote play great feature and use steam/oculus pcvr directly from quest app big kudos to dev for that.

  6. Can’t seem to set up Steam VR with my Quest. It runs the Virtual Desktop app just fine, I load up Steam VR and it says I have a headset and 2 controllers connected. It then prompts me to set up boundaries and no matter what I do it won’t get past that point. How do I set up Steam VR with my Oculus Quest through Virtual Desktop? Please help.

  7. So I grabbed it and it's really laggy. Is it smooth on your system? My PC is wired and I'm on 5g….so it should be fast and smooth….but it refreshes terribly. Is there a setting I should be adjusting to make it work? Should I just wait…or get a refund?

  8. Just tried this but its unplayable for me with terrible lag. Tried Beat Saber and couldn't hit a single cube. My video bitrate reading was 14.5 mb is it because that's too low? I've got a 5ghz wireless router but my PC isn't tethered by ethernet so maybe thats why. The Steam home room I could move around but it looked terrible and was super laggy. Is AVLR better or is it just my wireless connection? I've wanted to play around with this but only if the Quest ends up being sharper than my Rift otherwise there isn't a point to it as I use them both in the same place and my CVI is far more comfortable and has way better sound. My goal is to get Google Earth running super sharp on Quest, better than on my CVI? Do you think that's possible?

  9. can you do a comparative review video of the "Virtual Desktop"," ALVR", and "Vridge". which Do you like best and why? for me, I have Vridge and ALVR. of the 2 I like Vridge best because it just ran better straight from the download without me having to make any "Codec" changes or resolution changes. I had to mess around with ALVR and it still doesn't seem to do as well for me as Vridge. With ALVR, 5 minutes (sometimes less) and my picture goes all wonky with squares, but just for a second then pops back to normal. from then on about every minute it does that. Vridge does the same thing but much less often so its more playable. ALVR settings @ Codec H.264, Resolution @100%, bitrate@100 mbps.. you don't have these settings in Vridge and it runs better for me.

  10. Just played Crysis (on very high settings) using Virtual Desktop via the Go, and it worked very well. Little lag and blocky at times, but playable.

  11. I purchased and installed the Virtual Desktop Streamer last night (6/7/19). It worked great, but nothing VR works. I uninstalled the desktop software and reinstalled it again. Same problem the VR programs stay the same as the desktop screen size as the 2d stuff. Any advice! Would love to test out VR from PC to the Quest.

  12. How does Steam VR in Virtual Desktop on the Quest compared to ALVR? I noticed with some Steam VR games the buttons don't work in ALVR, (Gorn and Sword and Sorcery for instance) would the buttons work on Virtual Desktop? I guess I'll find out myself later when I get Virtual Desktop but wanted to know your experience.

  13. Steam VR isn't recognizing my Quest and I just get a black screen when switching to VR in Virtual Desktop.
SOLUTION: Right-click the desktop and click Nvidia Control Panel, then Manage 3D settings. Set the preferred graphics processor to "High-performance Nvidia processor" globally or specifically for Virtual Desktop. I found this right on the vrdesktop.net website under Frequently Asked Questions.

  14. Are you able to download a vr game to your desktop (not to steam) and play it like that through Virtual Desktop or can you only play vr games through steamvr?

  15. Is there something like the Quest controllers you can use for this content on PC instead of using the single Go controller? I'd buy some if they're usable without a completely separate headset.

  16. Well, unfortunately it didn't work so good for me. I tried Skyrim on the Quest and the resolution was bad. It also kept switching to gamepad every other time I restarted the game and the controls wouldn't work right. Really just unplayable. ALVR looks way better. In fact ALVR looked BETTER than on my rift. Maybe if VD let you change the streaming settings some more like ALVR it would look better. But for Skyrim(The only thing I tried) its a no as of right now.

  17. Problem…. have the quest and installed virtual desktop. I purchased beat saber on STEAM. The problem seems to be once I have clicked play for beat saber, I can click "confirm safety button at the start" or any portion of the game. The controllers are recognized and they light up over the buttons within the game but nothing happens. Any help appreciated

  18. Virtual desktop is killer but I could not get it to run Steam VR, I still get the "headset off" issue… I mean I tried reinstalling Virtual desktop on pc many times to no avail… I won't worry, at the accelerated phase stuff is developing at the quest enviroment I wouldn't be surprised if in a couple of days VD launches a patch that fixes it… or something…
