  1. I'm enjoying my S10+ and the fingerprint scanner is not really a hassle. But you are right, I'll wait for 5G before I buy another phone.

  2. I'm still rockin the Galaxy S9 Plus from last year, and this is the first time since the iPhone 3GS that I haven't upgraded to a new flagship device the next year. Like you said, not enough compelling reasons to upgrade. Will see what the companies do go tempt me. Huawei Mate 30 Pro might… ?

  3. I know this will never happen, but instead of coming out with a new phone every year, OEMs should do it every other year, and focus more on software improvements..

  4. Some great points brought up here. I'm still holding on to my Pixel 2XL for most of the reasons you mentioned other than the fact that I generally keep the same phone for at least 2 years.

Shrinking profit margins got all these OEMs shook but if they were to stop and think pragmatically there are simply things the average user wants in a smartphone. Battery life, decent performance, and a decent camera. All these things like slim bezels, pop-up cameras and in-screen fingerprint scanners are mostly gimmicks like you mentioned. I find in general hardware tends to fade into the background after the honeymoon phase of getting a new phone. Things like software experience, and battery life are the things that tend to more determine a phone's longevity.

I think OEMs are generally thinking of the smartphone buyer as a beta test subject. Hence while they aren't afraid to release new features that are half-baked in Gen. 1. Why spend the extra money on R&D to test these features in-house when you can sell them to users and make improvements on the next device and then sell that as a feature to make users upgrade.

  5. I had my iPhone XS Max for 9 months and honestly speaking I prefer FaceID over a fingerprint sensor. Since I’m jailbroken I’m able to unlock my phone without having to swipe up, and being able to unlock my phone in pitch dark just makes it more better and very convenient. Also I love the gestures system, it’s too perfect and I feel like OnePlus has the closest thing to it.

  6. 5g is just nit neccessary for normal users. Wejust need it for connected self driving cars and things like that. But for normal users and also tech enthusiasts 4g is good enough!

  7. Great summary of the smartphones of today! I love that I get this feeling that you are totally not biased towards any model you mentioned. Great work!

  8. I use an iPhone XS Max and see absolutely no reason to upgrade to the next one or the one after that. Apple is becoming a bit stale. In fact I may even say adios to Apple altogether. There are cheaper and better alternatives out there.

  9. I usually hold onto my phones for at least 2 years or until the phone begins to bug out on me. (HTC One M7 for 2 years, Moto G4 Plus for 2.5 years, OG Pixel XL for 1 year, and currently using a iPhone XR).

  10. Young Brandon good to see you I change my phones every 3 to 6 months I always carry two at the minute I've the honour view 20 great phone and the Google pixel 3xl battery life rubbish compared to honor my next phone is going to be Sony 1 I like Sony phones and they are good phones by there problem is they don't spend much on advertising so people miss them except for die hard fans

  11. Premium continues to mean less durability (glass backs), worse ergonomics (weight, palm rejection issues), and questionable designs (insecure security features, missing headphone jacks, sealed batteries, no external storage). I think the Pixel3a marks the resurgence of the mid ranger and the return to value over gimmicks.

  12. Note 8 here. Waiting to see what's going to be the trade in value towards the note 10. Note 9 wasn't much worth of an upgrade to me…

  13. I just bought a Galaxy s10 and I love it! I had a Galaxy S7 edge with a cracked screen that was starting to fall off so….. The fingerprint scanner is not as good like you say but mine works 90% of the time. I have started using face unlock because I have nothing to hide. Plus you still have to use your fingerprint to make any purchases so it's secure enough for me.

  14. I'm using Pixel 2 XL after my Nexus 6P died, and planning to buy the Pixel 4 with its smartwatch (if it turns out to be true) this year… ?

I would go with (acceptable) chin all day to have symmetrical and identic front firing speaker and of course all of the camera(s) or sensors.

  15. I like bezelless features. I hold my one plus 7 pro just fine thanks. I would rather trade a selfie cam durability for an aesthetically pleasing design. I think the one plus 7pro nailed the design tho i wish the selfie camera was centered instead of off to the side.

  16. I think I'll hold off once I get the Pixel 4. Never owned one, and I'd really like to try it out. Besides, I'm somewhat jealous of the Pixel 3a that I bought for my girlfriend ?. It's a pretty cool device. Last year I left the Apple Ecosystem when sold my iPhone X and Series 3 to get a Note 9, and now I REALLY want to try out the Google Experience.

  17. New video on my birthday, nice! Totally agree with you, I've got a Pixel 2 XL right now and just haven't seen anything that makes me want to upgrade to a new phone. I might get the Pixel 4 though if it looks cool as I cracked my Pixel 2's screen recently.

  18. Got the OnePlus 7 pro now.. it ticks all the right boxes for me. I might keep this phone for a couple of years if they support it properly.

  19. I've got the Pixel 3A, but the iPhone I replaced it with was almost 2 years old. And if the 3A hadn't come around, I'd definitely still be rocking that 2 year old phone. But I did try my hand at being "that guy," I got the Nokia 3310, but honestly, forcing yourself to use a dumbphone or a flip phone is a massive headache in 2019, unless, I guess, if you never had a smartphone. It helped me cut back on distractions, but it hindered basically everything else.

  20. I like my pixel XL 3. It's rear reader is fine but I did like my MOTO with the reader on the front. I could unlock my phone without picking it up and lock it with the same button too.

  21. Your comical and I like it.
Heads Up, I'm A Granny, I have a Smartphone. But I also won it too.?
Mine is Pixel 3a, love it.
You're right about people saying things, then not even by them.
OnePlus 7Pro Facelock, that's not good.
Does this happen with Samsung S10's too?Awesome video, thank you ???

  22. Agree with you 100% too many gimmicks on mobiles. In screen finger print scanners are better on the back. Sold my buggy Xiaomi mi9SE for a older xiaomi mi mix 2s so great.
