  1. He’s my neighbor at my office. His work ethic is insane, his set up is so clean, etc. he is so structured as well.

Actually to be fair, he sneezed once in the cafeteria and I he no idea who he was and I said “shhhhh” and he just looked at me.

  2. Good analysis but all I hear (especially after seeing your VERY scatchy/creepy link in the description about a so called 40 $/hour job) is: "I am trying so hard to get a channel like his but I'm not able to do so… The reason for my jealousy is that this guy started before me, just at the right point of YouTube history and I am one of the thousands copycats" ?

  3. You sound like a typical hater! You ARE dismissing his success! HE IS A HARD WORKER WHO IS CONSISTENT! HE HAS IMPECCABLE DISCIPLINE!

THAT IS WHY HE US BETTER THAN YOU!!! YES A BLACK MAN IS BETTER THAN YOU! ITS NOT BECAUSE OF FIRST WAVE! PEOPLE LIKE HIM, HE IS BRILLIANT! GET OVER IT!

  4. "beating the algorithm" i think you mean he has been working hard for over 10 years to grow a successful tech channel. yes he is doing well but its not by the algorithm thats just a clickbait title

  5. Great video, I'm questionable though about some of your emphasis/attribution of his success to environmental factors. Certainly his timing has played a huge role in his evolution but the man is a master of his craft. Superior production aside, he provides insights about products far exceed most anything else I see on Youtube.

  6. Your video title is never and I mean you do not come close, answered. This is a short where he came from video and it's very good but your click bate title has not earned my sub.

  7. I want my 13 minutes back. Repeating the same thing “he go in early” and “I don’t know.” Here are a couple MAJOR things left out:

    1) YouTube starting implementing Advertising. Videos that Advertisers want to buy Ad Space on get promoted by YouTube so they get more commission

    2) Initially YouTube Ad revenue never went to “creators.” This left a big space for “sponsors” to fill by paying tech & beauty channels to covertly Advertise their products by “reviewing” them/using them in the video.

    3) Ads on YouTube started as banner Ads & pop-ups. This worked best with Tech since they can advertise [new exciting tech product you don’t need here], knowing viewers are watching that video because they’re already looking to buy, upgrade, or can be talked into “needing” more tech.

    4) YOUTUBE WAS SOLD TO GOOGLE — c’mon how to you not bother mentioning this?? Most of the first “YouTube” Famous people at the time are still Dominating YouTube. Ever wonder why that is? It’s because they were offered a deal with YouTube to be “Partners” by sharing in Advertising Revenue. They wanted them to become “Full Time” on YouTube, in exchange for Promoting and pushing their videos, Ad $$$, and likely either paid directly via YouTube stock or straight up paychecks. Because they were the first to be “famous” on-camera figures, they helped legitimize YouTube post-Google takeover, become influential in covert marketing, bring in new users who thought they could do the same by filming on talking to their webcam like its a person and become “famous” (since no one knew ANY YouTubers were getting paid by YouTube or Advertising Corps at the time), which generates more content for more Ads. However, those users didn’t get a share of the Ad Money

    5) Creation of Ad Sense (another Google Corp), and again, how much videos that get premium or targeted advertising from Ad Sense are promoted and suggested throughout the entire platform – which only brings in more views and subscribers to the same people who are already making a killing.

    6) The Economic Collapse of 2008 along with the boom of Advertisers jumping on Facebok, Instagram, and YouTube once those companies finally agreed to cash out on their “creation.” For those who don’t know, it was a MASSIVE controversy when Facebook agreed to implement Ads (banner ads like a website, not anything like what it is today) when many preferred paying a small membership fee to keep the Platform Ad-free. These Ads could be blocked with an Ad-Blocker btw. This created “The Influencer.” A bunch of over educated, laid-off/underemployed desperate people who were dealing with foreclosures and couldn’t afford health insurance, who now had tons of time on their hands and were looking for any opportunity possible to stay afloat. Without the Great Recession, there would be no “Influencers.” Idk how old this dude is, but everyone knows this!!!!

    7) And lets not forget the elephant in the room: Marques was a pretty well-off kid. Who TF had a brand new laptop at 13 years old back in 2005??? Only super rich kids, thats who. It’s nothing like today because Tech prices have gone WAY down, and 13 year olds now have a reason to use a laptop… unlike 2005 where the family computer was enough to play their lil video games or chat on AOL. Social Media was just starting at that time, there was really nothing else to do online but Torrent Music, chat in Chatrooms, join Fanclub forums, lookup song lyrics with Lycos (much better search engine than Google) on LyricsFreak, or discover pr0n (sadly). So unless Marques needed to do spreadsheets or accounting at 13 years old, there’s no reason for that Laptop… especially given the constant headlines of Predators luring kids offline to meet IRL, kids were usually monitored and not allowed to have their own computer.

    >>> To get started reviewing Tech or Beauty, you need $$$ to buy the shit to review! Again, he comes from some wealth. Only once you’re established and your influence is “proven,” do you get PR (aka free products to review that Influencers always turn around and resell for profit). Once they’re getting PR, it’s safe to say they’re not giving Honest Reviews anymore; instead they’re just Advertising to you.

*ALL of the big Tech Channels Advertise products in every single video, period*
So now you’re living in the land of Ads playing on Commercials you’re willingly clicking on thinking they’re going to share some actual information or an honest product review.

  8. I saw the thumbnail and just tapped it. Didn't realize it was from another channel.
He provides quality content. His content is stylish as well as informative.
He doesn't give us any kind of BS.
It's a delight to watch his videos.

  9. I totally agree with what you said in the video,MKBHD was riding the wave at the right time and of course he had enough know-how to pull in the audience. But in my opinion there is also another reason to his success.
MKBHD was just a passionate consumer like all of us and the way he approached and analyzed the products was exactly the same as the average consumer, so when I watch his videos often I feel like I've written his own texts and it's like reading my thoughts rather than as someone trying to analyze something he did not know or care about and that's the key to success for me.
In short, the right moment, the passion that came out effortlessly, and the hard work that he put in led to his great success.
    Great video by the way!
