  1. Overpriced, overpriced, (I got my vac sealer for $35CAD brand new, and that brand name isn't worth the extra $100 . . .), and overpriced although I understand why. A cast iron will cost a quarter of that, do all the same things, but not be nearly so pretty, nor be supporting traditional smithing skills, which I am partial to. I mean, the cost on that fancy pan is at least justified, the other two have no excuses except greed.

  2. You can't recycle those Dixie cups because of the plastic lining. Here's the thing about plastic.

All the plastic shit that Is used in food, mercantile and health. 1 way is to cease ALL plastic production and shovel the plastic we have. Or another way is to look into the cannabis plastic that actually degrades.

In the words of George Carlin: The planet isn't going anywhere. WE are.

  3. I would guess the Click and Grow works by having different permeability of the soils the seeds are contained in, thus adjusting the water intake per seed type without having to be told what its growing. As for light, I have no idea. And even my theory about the water is just a theory, at 3P per pod, that's' the only explanation that makes dang sense for such a price.

  4. You can skip the sealer and buy reusable silicone sousvide zip bags. It does not devoid fully of air, so not used for marinade absorption, etc, but fine for sousvide cooking. Saves on the plastic.

  5. So… did they ever work out how the machine knows?

I'm guessing the pods might have a chip or barcode that the machine can read? Or each individual plant has a water reserve that empties and refils as the plant drinks up the water.

  6. I was given the Smart garden as a gift. The app was annoying as hell, it went off at all kinds of odd times telling me to water the plants. Also the light didn't elevate very far so it made actually growing peppers or tomatoes next to impossible.

As someone who has grown herbs on my kitchen counter for many years for the cost of that thing you can easily enough get a longer LED grow light, timer, more, bigger pots, potting soil and lots of seed packs. I'm not sure how'd you forget to water the plants as they'd be right on your kitchen counter, mines right by the coffee pot so it's not like I don't see the plants every day.

  7. Couldnt live without my vacuum sealer. Great to seal meat bought in bulk, pack food in coolers for camping, marinating food in the fridge safely

  8. I disagree with the vacuum sealer, and the waste. It depends how you use it, if you only use it for sous-vide you are produce more waste, but if you precook meals in big bulks you make less .
I for example buy bigger packs or fresher ingreedients (from a Butcher for example )from the start and don´t just cook for 1-2 meals i cook for 4-8 meals.

For example Bologna instead of 300g minz i buy 1Kg and cook as much as possible eat one day and the rest i portion in the bags, nexttime i´m hungry for bologna i don´t need to buy the ingredients again ( no new waste ), and have to start cooking 30-60 minutes on a work day, i just heat up water for the noodles, put the bag Bologna in from the start, and when the water is ready for the noodles i take the heated bag out of the water and the noodles in for 5-10minutes. Dinner is Ready!

You can do this with many dishes, and have less waste, great food ( and you know what´s in it ),
and you are less inclined to eat outside during the week or buy ready-made meals.

Next option is mariniating, get a vacuum jar with a little tube ( most seller allready have this as an option for their vacuum sealer as an extra ), and marinate your meat, vegtables, fruits what ever.

Vacuum Sealer are great for meal prepping!!!

  9. I bought a Click & Grow love fresh herbs, but I live in an apartment that gets no direct sunlight so this works and has worked really well

  10. Sous Vide is wonderful. STEAK, Jamie, is the best way to cook. I have used it for many other things, the vacuum sealer that I bought once I had the SV machine has been a wonderful accompaniment. I can pick things fresh from the garden and immediately seal and freeze them for later use, herbs and veg. I also have an Aerogrow for year round herbs and it is wonderful as well.

  11. Kinda surprised you went straight to sou-vide with the vaccuum sealer. Not really what anyone I know uses it for – it's a storage device. Buy a larger pack of meat, portion it out (toss some flavorings in with it if wanted) and it can be doled out as single portions if needed. Keeps things safe in the cupboard. Loads of other storage uses (and while the bags aren't cheap, and the instructions frown on it – you can reuse them. A lot.) but perhaps that's a country living thing. When it can be 25-45 to the grocery, you keep a good pantry. When the weather traps you inside for a week+ pretty much every year, often more than once, insurance things won't be wasted or ruined becomes important. And at the risk of horrifying the more citified – we heat predominately with wood. A wood rack and a wood chute when mixed with country living can equal mine. Sealing things up gets vital fast. For things like that, I honestly suggest them to most of the people I know. Even if only to make sure food wastage is minimized if a friend living on their own wants to take advantage of a discount something sized for a family rather than pay what amounts to the 'alone' tax. Sealed tight, no freezer burn, good to go.

  12. Vacuum sealers are just really good for packaging bulk foods into smaller packs for either the fridge or freezer! Easy to write on with a pen, breaking up a cheaper big block of cheese and keep it from going blue, making ground beef into specific sized portions, etc.

  13. In the U.S. I have an Aero Garden, the nearest appliance to the herb garden seen here. Mine does give more options, however you do need to put fertilizer into the water when the machine says to, about every 3 weeks. It also tells you when it needs more water which is helpful. I plant mine in November, usually opting for thyme, chives and basil. By the time winter in NYC rolls around my fresh herbs are ready and last for about 3 months. I use it all the time since fresh herbs in winter are very dearly priced.

Cleaning it for the year is a bit of a challenge.

  14. Heavy bottom pans do not take long to heat up if you use a gas stove vs the electric stove top garbage… I hated the few times I had to cook on an electric stove top!

  15. Do you keep the higher end cooking gadgets from across all the videos? Could that maybe be an idea for a battle or a badge – choose one of the higher end cooking gadgets (pan, knife, pots, chopping boards, herb garden) and the badge goes to the person who practices and makes the best use of that gadget? To celebrate the gadget?

  16. So I’ve spent a full 24hours binge watching these seasons. Absolutely love them and I’m getting half my Christmas shopping done in the process

    Love this

  17. Just wanted to say that I bought the Smart Garden after seeing it in this video and it's been great! Annoying how long peppers take to grow, but all my pods have grown great

  18. Sous vide.
No doubt it would be handy however ebber mentioned it relieves food waste, however you have more plastic going to land fill that doesnt biodegrade like food does.

  19. You can absolutely cut the bags to be smaller so you're not using so much plastic. And yes they come smaller because mine first $20 and it works amazing

  20. As someone already mentioned, pan reviews would be more valuable if you did a 6 or 12 month follow up.
And reviewing pans that are actually available outside the UK would be awesome too.

  21. Issue I have with gadgets, especially with capsul-tyoe things, is it's just MORE plastic. Why couldn't they use compostable materials?

  22. I actually have the click and grow… and also the click and grow shelf unit it’s giant and super expensive lol and grows like 16? Plants
The problem also, is that if you let light escape into the water, there’s a high chance you will get mold in the water
On the other hand it is very good as a plant nursery. I probably won’t use it to grow fruiting plants though like tomatoes and peppers…

Edit: the capsules are expensive but I sorta cheat, empty old capsules and put normal soil and seeds inside 😀

  23. i mean, for Anova, having a vacuum sealer is a no-brainer given the synergy with their wands. Beats them losing sales to competing vacuum sealer companies like FoodSaver

  24. Grower…, useless.., try growing tomato's or chilli in it, being a gardener of many years, I think it would be a total fail. I would love to buy the Skillet.., but can't justify to spend $185AU (current conversion rate WITHOUT import costs) on one pan…, no matter how it is made.
