  1. From listening to all the discourse, it seems like pokemon legends is such an ugly game that even people who usually absolutely dont care about graphics also get taken aback by how poor the visual quality of this game is. I think game freak are very lucky they have revolutionized other aspects of the game which finally makes this a progressive entry. At least they have taken that step 😂, hopefully they polish up the presentation in subsequent games

  2. Reading Rebekah's review, I'm actually surprised she didn't rate it lower than a 7. Looks like a good technical foundation for a sequel, so hopefully the world will be focused on in the next game.
I haven't really heard that people were complaining about Xenoblade X's open world. The story usually seems to be the most common point of contention. Kat's welcome to think it's too empty, but I thought it was a great (and beautiful) open world and I've generally seen it praised. Still hoping for a sequel!

  3. I completely disagree about out the game looking bad, like seriously fuck with that nonsense
It looks fantastic so shut up
Deserve better my ass, it's a great game and looks good

  4. THANK you REB for NOT drinking the Pokemon kool-aid. Just because its a new pokemon game does not mean it is guaranteed amazing and ground breaking. I will return my game back to Best Buy now! The creators surely know the game will sell well no matter what and it shows in the games OVERALL quality.

  5. Kay seems offended by the criticism. I’m loving Acrceus AND Reb’s criticism are spot on. The world is interesting but empty. The gameplay is fun but repetitive. The story goes in interesting directions then drops storylines. The game feels unfinished. And having said that, a slow burn, relaxing game where the Dex is the main thing and you fill it with more than just capturing is exactly what I’ve wanted since Gen 1. It’s ok to say the game is good not great and still love it.

  6. Great discussions. Normally I agree with Kat on almost everything, but I definitely don’t agree that Xenoblade X was empty or lacking. I think that world is so underrated, and it runs laps around Arceus’s world.

Also, I definitely have Ring Fit waiting to be played as soon as I clear my backlog a bit. Reb has sold me on it.

  7. It's not my favorite Zelda game but I think Link Between Worlds has THE best dungeons of any Zelda game. The puzzle aspect of each dungeon feels very consistent and well developed. A couple of dungeons have these "a-ha!" moments when everything comes together and you realize how your own movement through the dungeon has set up a sort of mechanism that then snaps into place at the end. Very satisfying. You can see how those dungeon designs influenced the Divine Beasts as moving dungeons.

  8. I'm a few hours into Arceus now, and damn does this game look bad and run poorly. They should be ashamed for releasing this tech demo as a finished product. Should have taken their time with it (or better yet, have a more competent developer work on it)

  9. To sit here say people shouldn't expect polish is nonsense…yall act as if everything is mutually exclusive u can have a quality game play loops and good graphics as if that hasn't been done more than once đŸ¤ŖđŸ¤ŖđŸ¤Ŗ

  10. I'm actually pretty annoyed by the outlets that gave the game 9s or 10s. Like come on, this isn't an indie studio, can't we be a little critical of their technical chops, so they get the signal to spend more time polishing their next game?

  11. Yes, I agree with Peer…Rock 'n' Roll Racing was great on the SNES. I played that a lot vs my family. Also, like Peer I bought a 2nd Switch for a trip. That was before the cloud saves existed and I was afraid to travel with my Switch and my 1000+ hr Breath of the Wild save file. I locked the first one up in a fire safe and traveled with the new one playing Xenoblade Chronicles to for the whole trip. Now I use one on the tv for YouTube while playing the other handheld. That works out pretty well after 5 years.

  12. Reb gave a total oxymoron review. You can review all games the way she did easily. Felt like she ripped a game she truly enjoyed for the sake of ripping it. I can talk down every game I’ve played in my life. Then again she’s still very young. I appreciate her enthusiasm, but expectations aside her experience with the game was positive. I bought LoA but haven’t opened it yet. According to Reb I’m sure going to enjoy it. I have no expectations to look forward to, just wanting to experience PokÊmon my own way.

  13. I do have to say, having played it – yes. The graphics are decent when you're inside the draw distance but the second you look at something past it the quality tanks and legit looks like a gamecube game. I'm not gonna deny that.

That being said, the game's fun. I'm personally loving it, and the graphics aren't really hindering my enjoyment at all. Once in a while I'll laugh at it, but the actual mechanics and gameplay more than make up for it IMO.

  14. Btw, having actually played Arceus now, I am really enjoying it, and I haven't been into PokÊmon since like gen 2. But, from the looks of the comments here, I am a piece of shit and should be ashamed. Bummer.

  15. Hot take: Navi wasn't that bad. 90% of the time you didn't even have to "LISTEN" to her unless she pressed a button. Fi was much much worse. King of Red Lions is still, no pun intended, King. Underrated and way better than Midna.

  16. We need a Pokemon game with good story and be like pokemon colosseum they don't need 700 hundred Pokemon make it like 150 Pokemon good story good graphics good gameplay that's it.

  17. Uh, nah. Reb’s review can go in the trash. Literally gave BD/SP an 8/10 and this a 7/10. Talk about trying so hard to be contrarian in order to appear as if you’re being a sophisticated reviewer. Cringe.

  18. Crystal really is the best, I completely agree. RSE were a step down on the GBA after that and nothing has felt as special sent.

While its neat to play on the go, Banjo-Kazooie is SOOOOOOOO much better on the Xbox than the N64 port. Free roaming camera, 1080p resolution, native widescreen, 4x MSAA etc. As someone to refers to BK as their #1 all time favorite game, I can't recommend anyone play the N64/Switch version over the superior Xbox port.

  19. Kat is crazy for comparing this new Pokemon to Xenoblade Chronicles X. At least from a technical standpoint XCX looks generations better. And that was released last gen! (In fact it's one of the best looking WiiU games) And in no way is this the Switch's fault. Arceus looks worse than some PS2 games, and I'm not even exaggerating. And on the Switch we saw open world games like Breath of the Wild or Immortals Phoenix Rising, there is just no excuse for Arceus to look this bad or be this empty. This is just bad art direction and design.
And it's sounds like Kat doesn't want to face reality here. I mean, in BOTW you see something going on in every corner. You can find something interesting everywhere. Here it looks like it's all empty. I'm glad Rebekah reviewed this, because I actually want those games to get better. And Gamefreak will never learn if Pokemon fans keep praising them forever and loving everything and not pointing out what is obviously wrong.

  20. THIS. This was the best episode I've listened to in a long time. The show's on the up and up again, but today delivered exactly what I love about NVC: very thoughtful, well articulated takes on new games, game development and industry matters, interesting and relevant personal stories, humor, and even some great mentions of older classics. (I, too, need to finally play Link Between Worlds!)

Rebekah's insight on Pokemon Legends is almost more valuable here than what was already delivered in her excellent review. I have a feeling I'll share similar thoughts after diving into the game, just because I believe my perspective of comparing to other open world games on Switch is similar.

  21. To me the best PokÊmon game was Gold/Silver. That’s where it peaked. Every game i have played afterwords has not been as good. X/Y was what got me back into PokÊmon that one was really good too imo.

  22. SETH DO NOT play Majora's on the 3DS. That's the worst remake of all time. It looks terrible and it ruined the whole point of the game.

Casey is not here to correct these terrible takes, so I guess I have to

  23. I’d have bought so many retro games again on Switch and am not a fan of having loads of subscriptions.
The annoying thing is prior to the Switch your purchases wouldn’t carry over to the next console, then they made the Nintendo account but didn’t sell retro games that could carry overâ€Ļ
