  1. Water dispenser is crazy £149.99 you can buy a quick boil 1.7L kettle from asda for £17, and it's smart boil 1 cup only use what you need.

  2. Rice is cheap? Not in Taiwan where it actually grows. You can look to pay about $10 for 2kg of rice at the supermarket. If you want the fancy Jasmine or Basmati, almost $30.

  3. The english always think rice can be cooked in any others way
As asian i said for sure not going to happen!
Only the rice cooker can do the rice

  4. I live in the South US and I genuinely can't imagine life without a rice cooker. We even have a special slow cooker we keep in the closet whose only job is to cook rice. It does nothing else, because it makes the rice basically perfect every single time.

  5. As someone living in Asia and doesnt drink tap water, both rice cooker and water dispenser (hot and cold) are something very common in our household.

  6. The hot and cold water thingie, that would be great in an office kitchen. I don't see it being useful at someones house. I am part of a family of 4 and kettles are just more productive. However, an office would be perfect for that.

  7. You only need a rice cooker if you don't have time to check the rice. Otherwise a regular pot will do. Also, different rice grains need different amount of time in the water, so it's nice to be able to check the grains while cooking.

  8. So far as I’m concerned, a mini rice cooker is necessary. My roommate had one before I moved back home and I missed it for months, then I got one for Christmas. It’s nice for when you’re doing other things or are very sick and all you can eat is rice

  9. 49 temperatures of water sounds fantastic to me. Black tea – boiling, green tea or coffee – hot, cocoa – warm, water – chilled.

  10. I like my rice cooker. T-fal. Always perfect. Only downside is that as it’s a large rice cooker in can’t make small batches. Which was annoying when it was just the two of us, but not we’re a growing family and there will be less going to the dogs now

  11. That rice cooker has no ventilation does it? Could explain the mush at the bottom. Get the mini Zojirushi and it’s life changing. Great for 1-2 portions.

  12. I wonder if the water dispenser would work for hot water bottles,it’s what I use the kettle for like 80% of the time and idk if you would be able to fill one up safely and while in control 🤔

  13. I'm highly skeptical that the water dispenser is energy efficient. Instant heating and cooling needs a lot of power. There will also always be some overhead from bringing the heating element up to temp

  14. I got a instant hot water dispenser in 2019 . It was the best thing I bought and got me through the locked down days making coffee, tea and instant ramen.

  15. I love my rice cooker and the porridge setting is perfect for making rice porridge mine inst a mini one but having got it won’t live without it

  16. In a rice cooker, 2 cups of water is too much for 1 cup of rice. 1 and a half would have been better. The beauty of a rice cooker is you can leave the rice to cook itself while you prepare the rest of dinner, you get a perfect result every time and it will keep it warm for hours

  17. I have never seen anyone wash rice in a colander. Nor have I seen anyone measure water and rice with actual cups since home ec class. Just touch the rice with your fingertip and when the water touches the first knuckle of the finger it´s the perfect amount of water.

  18. How use a rice cooker: wash rice 3 times with cold water or until water is almost clear. Place rice in cooker add cold water until it covers the top of the rice up to the first knuckle of your finger. If you do it this way it will never be soggy on the bottom. Never use suggested water measurements or warm/hot water.

  19. lol i get the whole efficiency thing but how long does it take to pay back its carbon footprint in those savings. That is what needs to be determined before you can say it is more efficient than a kettle. More often than not the devices that are made to quote be green have such a high carbon footprint they can never possibly neutralize the creation of the device in the first place.

  20. WTF! Did you just say boil rice and pour off the excess water. You should be put in the stockades for even suggesting that that is an acceptable way to cook rice. Uncle Roger would be very disappointed.

  21. You don't have to fill up the entire kettle, so not really saving energy! That would also not work in north America or anywhere else with 120v electric, there just won't be enough energy to instantly boil water.

  22. As a professional Chef myself, I use a rice cooker at home and always come up with fantastic rice. I don't even wash the rice before cooking it. As well, I know many chefs (including for service in Michelin star restaurants) that use rice cookers with no issue. Sushi rice included.
