  1. Probably the biggest reason is that the general public are basically technophobes who like everything presented at a child's level, easy to grasp, simple, cartoon-like…dumbed-down.

WSJ reporting incorrectly 𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣. Or maybe it just sounds misleading? You be the judge….

Samsung announced in February 2022 that a list of Galaxy devices will be eligible for four years of Android updates, including tablets, flagships, foldable phones, cheaper Galaxy A series phones, and Galaxy Watch models.

Samsung "recently" announced that ALL devices from 2019 or later will get four years of security updates. That includes every Galaxy line: Galaxy S, Note, Z, A, XCover, and Tab, for a total of over 130 models.

Newer flagship devices like the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S22, Galaxy Z Fold 4, and others are scheduled to get five years of security updates.

  3. Thank God the title says US… There is a whole world out there and iPhone is not king at all, iMessage is mostly unknown in all countries other than the US

  4. The rich stay rich by spending like the poor and investing without hesitating then the poor stay poor by spending like the rich yet not investing like the rich

  5. i bought an iphone for the first time for this exact reason. you can't afford not to have updates on such an important device

  6. This is so stupid. As a customer I can tell you these features aren’t that popular. Iphone camera and backup are important features and apple kills old iPhones slowly so customers buy new device. Their service is worst-in India

  7. I think tour columnist Mims made a mistake speaking about long-term support.
Apple supports phones up to 6 years with new versions of iOS, it is true. Those are more "number updates" than features.
Apple usually reserves much part of new features to last launched phones without adding them to older ones.

Samsung, on the other hand, recently announced a 4 years Android update which means all Android's new features for each new version and much of Samsung OneUI's ones [and not just a bit of them].
Plus, Samsung now guarantees 5 years of security updates, critically more important of features updates for "future proofing" a Digital device.

So, there is just a year difference nowadays.

  8. It didn't mention connectability. Schools in the U.S. use Macs so kidses are used to that platform. Then you get an iPhone, iPad and Apple TV, and they can all be easily connected with your Apple ID. I'm surprised this wasn't mentioned in the story.
