  1. Could a laser sensor at leg / foot level anticipate direction change and tell the infinadeck (not sure that’s how to spell it) at the moment it seems to react to pressure and movement with a slight delay.

  2. Why not give the control back to the user and just use free treads on bearings rather than motors controlled by input received by a camera?

  3. Would freaking love to work on this, I always thought a big old school mouse ball fliped upside down on wich you walk would do the trick, with an harness with sensors for body moves and the mouse ball to adapt quickly.

  4. I think you could solve the problem with a touch sensitive treadmill that could read what percentage of the body weight is placed on which foot. Taking a step uses your full body weight and using this parameter would allow you to make the treadmill x/y-axis correction instantly as you could read what the step length is. The difference between body position and foot position when foot has 100% (or so) weight load is the distance the axis need to cover. Done correctly this could mask itself as heptic feedback since the body is expecting a type of muscle activation when "walking" and having to rely on the ground to work as you expect based on the real world.

  5. I feel like instead of basing it off of your back and the over all position of your body, it should be based off of the position of your stepping foot.
    If the user picks up their foot, track the direction that the foot is heading and spin the treadmill in the exact opposite direction while the foot is in the air…
    I feel like that is how humans walk, they lean and move in a certain direction and subsequently put their foot in that direction. Using that logic, you can reverse it and say that the
    direction a person's stepping foot is going is the way they will go. When the device is on your back, your foot is already on the ground by the time your body moves so there is a bit
    of a delay.
    I could be totally wrong, but I feel like that makes the most sense in my head

  6. If the deck had a slight parabola perhaps it would help your brain deal with the changes in acceleration. Since there's not a way to detect the user's intent, make the user more aware of where the Infinadeck intends to keep them.

  8. It's very noisy when you walk. Good try but need more work. The current delay when you stop is borderline dangerous. He was only walking slowly. If he was running, the delay would push him backwards even further. He'd run into the ring.

    I know it's a work in progress, but there's a long way to go.

  9. This thing would be a maintenance nightmare. Cool, but very complicated. Too complicated for my game room for sure.
    Could always train to be an Infinideck repairman, i guess.

    I mean, you can just open your eyes and there are miracles everywhere around you.

    But nooooo…. We want to strap ourselves to a massive treadmill, put goggles over our eyes, and pretend to kill people.

  12. I've got a better solution. A giant track ball you walk on while suspended in a harness. It would be far cheaper and more responsive and feel more natural. Feel free to plagiarize my idea as I have no way of actually making the thing, but if you make millions doing it, just send one mil my way as a thank you 🙂

  13. Neat idea but doomed to fail. I bet the experience is like being in one of those crazy houses in a travelling carnival – the things where the floor moves in a wobbly, unpredictable way compared to your perception.

  14. Why couldn't they take the user's weight into account to adjust the motor speed and duration? So that the momentum from the initial correction that the treadmill makes will carry you closer to the center as opposed to past it.

  15. If the whole thing was bigger, itd be better.

    If you had more space to walk, it would be able to better cater towards what your doing smoothly
