  1. If Steam can practically make handheld gaming PCs, then Nintendo should be able to do the same with their next console.

It'd be a loss for them to not tap into the mobile gaming market, especially given the reputation Switch built up.

  2. They're making money hand over first with software sales, why release a new machine (if not backwards compatible) which will cannibalise software sales from a large install base. Software sales is where the profit is at. Plus, don't Nintendo gamers shun graphics and performance anyway? They don't primarily care about that right?

  3. Nintendo just released the most systems-ambitious game potentially of all-time. Sony and Microsoft have more power but they're not using it for anything except shinier graphics, higher framerates and faster loading times.

  4. Don't fix what isn't broken. Keep the form factor, upgrade the graphics, make it backwards compatible. Done. Sometimes Nintendo's decisions make absolutely no sense.

  5. Understanding Nintendo is a whole lot easier when you realize a Bank owns the majority of shares in the company. I'd imagine they're the primary influencer of Nintendo's decisions.

  6. Who cares whether the CEO of a gaming company is a gamer. He does not need to be. He just has surround himself with the right people and take care of the high level management.

  7. Even if they upgrade the switch, there’s just no way they’re going to be able to get 4k or even 1440p at or near 60FPS for a game like TotK for anything less than $400-500 in a handheld console. They’re going to want to keep their price point for this at around $300 so then you’re talking something that gives you 1080p (like the switch does already) at 60FPS. Is that really worth $300? I’d rather just a whole new console that doesn’t do handheld at that point
