  1. I know that this video is 2 weeks old but it is funny that there are still those out there who think 1. Tesla held the NACS away from all the other manufacturers, no, it was freely available this whole time. 2. They say the other cars are better than the 3 or Y; laughably false on every metric. We will look back on videos that say otherwise and laugh because Tesla has won this decade.

  2. Is it just me just thinking that NACS is the lighting port like Apple and CCS is USB-C universal. Why change the port to a non-universal plug? Just sell the damn adapter to Tesla Superchargers. I have seen many Tesla's at Electrify America stations with adapters to CCS. The future of EVs will have both ports on each side of the car IMO. Elon will charge a premium to have NACS added as the 2nd charging port to your car… add that billion to my bank account… cha-ching!!!

  3. Bring your ironing-board. Too many ubiquitous wrinkles to be sorted.
My 7-year old Tesla Model X has been less than ideal, except, charge-at-home.

  4. So quick question. Why couldnt tesla just sell us the magic docks? By the time they finish retro fitting their superchargers it will takes years.

  5. The chess move by Elon here is that when he decided to share NACS to all other brands, it opens up the floodgate for Tesla to inundate the entire American continent, North n South, with Tesla superchargers while receiving NO resistence from anyone or any State since NACS has become the accepted American standard. The federal funding also helps a lot. The aftermath of course a total win for Tesla since they will monopolise the charging landscape in America by owning and operating 99% of all chargers. Similar to how Windows and Google monopolise IT business.

  6. This isn’t a win for everyone. As a tesla owner now we have to share our already long lines with other vehicles.

  7. I just want to have everyone being able to charge and having options. This doesn't need to become a situation where Tesla goes Apple on shit and makes it constantly difficult, or impossible, to not use anything but their products. In order to have a quality EV, you should not have to sit there and only get a Tesla.

  8. Imagine if Ford or GM had their own proprietary gas stations, with a proprietary gas nozzle? Remember United States v. Microsoft Corp,.. in 2000 ?

  9. This proprietary charging lockout is a huge mess and makes full adoption that much more impractical

  10. Tesla monopoly…hahahahaha. My how the turns table.

It's going to look more and more like a monopoly when all EV companies use Tesla's AI. They will have to in order to achieve the level of safety required for driverless vehicles, and other EV manufacturers will never catch up unless they adopt. It's not about adapting to the environment, it's about adopting the tech Tesla is providing on a silver platter.

  11. I can’t be the only one that remembers when Tesla/Elon pledged to never have SuperChargers be a revenue source for the company and compared making money on energy sales as a scummy thing Big Oil does? Boy that laudable virtue went right out the window.

  12. It's interesting. In Europe, Tesla has been using CSS since the Model 3 hit the market. And for sometime, at least in Sweden, most of their stations have been open to non-Tesla users.

I guess it's a win for US consumers in a way, but I'd say it's mostly a win for Tesla and unfortunately not great for global harmonisation on charging standards. That said, it's not exactly common to take your car with you across the Atlantic so again, this is good for consumers, at least in the short run. But I'd be cautious as a non-Tesla costumer of being in "Teslas" grasp. I guess the ideal scenario would be if Telsa let go of the ownership of the connector and let it be an open standard.

  13. Gotta give props to Tesla, they pulled a blinder by investing so heavily so early on in what was always going to be the major limiting factor for ev adoption: charging convenience. And now they’re still a class above on it. Every other manufacturer can catch up on range, eclipse them on design or build quality, but none of them can match their network. Trick now is for Tesla to capitalize on other manufacturers using their network while still ensuring their own customers aren’t disadvantaged

  14. I think the next companies to join are Toyota, Honda, BMW, Nissan. After that everyone else will fill like NACS is the best option.

After them we need the public charging companies to adapt the standard as well. EV Go, Charge Point, EV America, and so on.

With one standard is where we will see true technological advancement.

It's Blu-Ray vs HD-DVD or VHS vs Beta Max all over again. The charging standard wars NACS vs CCS2.

  15. Really like this Chanel man. It would be cool I think to see you review other cars like the 4Runner and maybe a jeep every now and then. Or those new electric off roaders. Not all the time but occasionally

  16. This is a great trend! I do hope that Tesla scales their charging network to serve demand, and quickly. On a few roadtrips in the last 6 months, I've had to wait for a charger to open up at some of the charging stations.

  17. Buyer beware, I don't trust Musk as far as I can throw him. I see him holding his chargers for ransom once enough manufacturers have switched over, this whole thing smells fishy.

  18. The tesla experience is admittedly better due to advantages in available charging stations. but charging in general, any ev, is subpar to pumping gas/diesel.
That being said, most owners prefer to charge at home and will plan their days accordingly. Granted if you're on a long road trip then you will be relying on charging stations, in which case yes the tesla for this reason is superior. To that I say, do not buy an ev as your only car. We do not currently have the technology and the infrastructure to justify your only car being an ev. Have an ICE car, or at the very least have a PHEV as a backup.

  19. Sounds like bad news to me. We're moving to a proprietary standand, and doing so slowly enough that it's not just the new standard. All electric vehicles up to this point are now suddenly on a standard that's being replaced, so they're suddenly set up for obsolescence. Telsa suddenly becomes a monopoly on an aspect of all electric vehicles, and forces people to pay a monthly fee for the app. I'm not excited.

  20. Why have two standards? I’m in China and all EVs have the same charging port and standards making it very easy to charge any car. Also, there is not a dependency on Tesla superchargers giving you many options to charge (even NIO with their battery swaps). It seems to me that adopting the Tesla standard will keep isolating the US from the rest of the world in terms of charging. 3:19

  21. The "win for Tesla" is limited to their financial bottom line and essentially, stock holders. (which I'm not complaining about.). However, none of this is a win for Tesla owners. Try and make an argument to show how it is. Unless they seriously double, triple, quadruple the amount of Superchargers.

  22. Getting Standard Oil and Rockefeller feels from this declaration – it seems like a win now, but we'll see in the long-term whether it's truly better for the consumer.
