Lack of screen (panel) behind the steering wheel, single centered window controls, lack of physical buttons… All red flags for me. It all contributes to the driver taking eyes off the road. Minimal, in this case, means Low production cost car.
Yeah, I'll wait for the Rivian. People call Tesla interiors cheap, they haven't seen this one yet. It's Volvo unworthy.
Nice car. However, my XC40 Recharge has had multiple software and hardware issues. The car was bricked 4 times and had spent over 3 months in the repair shop. The software is not reliable. From talking to the service techs, this is their nightmare – software issues they can’t fix. So, I can’t recommend any Volvo EV, and I was looking forward to this one.
Given the size, package and use of space, the telo lt1 looks far more compelling
Sorry too bland, like every other crossover. Guaranteed nowhere near the performance of the R3X
I reserved one the day it was announced in the US, but then after waiting over 18 months I was informed that the base Core trim doesn’t have an eta for availability, so I canceled my rez. As a faithful Volvo owner since 2001, I am deeply disappointed that they aren’t making the base model available. I will likely wait on the R3 (not R3X) from Rivian.
Im torn between this and the Ioniq 5
Not functional, lack of visibility out the back and sides, lacks rails for mounting a roof rack, low rear hatch entry. I'll take the Rivien.
The hhr had the window switches in the middle and it's hard to get used to.
people keep referencing the weight of electric vehicles, but I think it's worth putting that in context.
Wow a 1980s compact SUV like a Ford bronco II weighed around 3300 pounds, the closest equivalent to this vehicle, the Volvo XC 40, weighs between 3600 and 3800 pounds. If this electric vehicle is between 4000 and 4100 pounds, and given that it's relatively fully specced, that's between 300 and 500 pounds difference. While not nothing, I certainly wouldn't want to be asked to pull that much weight, it's just a little over 10% heavier at worst. Whereas the current Volvo compact gas SUV is closer to 20% heavier than the bronco II.
just saying that for the uninitiated, complaining about the weight of an electric vehicle might make it seem like they're a third to twice as heavy as a gas car, and that just isn't the case. All cars today have increased in size and weight due to safety features, price of materials, etc. .
In my opinion, the Ioniq 5 XRT is another good R3X alternative you can get today.
People are going nuts over the Rivian R3X because people generally love well-executed retro throwback styling. Let's not pretend that people decide to spend tens of thousands of dollars on a car because it ticks off functionality checkboxes. If we want to play the "functionality checkbox" game people would choose an ICE car over an EV 10/10 times because gas stations are everywhere and it takes 5 minutes to fill the tank.
47k? Insane.
Seems like Volvo is paying you.
For the last freaking time. Those are not called blinkers. WTF does blinkers even mean?
Cute little car, for sure. But honestly I think I would wait for the Rivian…
Equinox LT ev all day. 25k after insensitives and 300 plus miles of range.
I'll take a Mazda MX-30 with the lower range but with driver cluster, a sunroof with a shade I can close, and physical control for HVAC and infotainment.
Swedish badge, Chinese build – enjoy those 145% tariffs
I got the Ultra ER Yellow with 20-inch wheels. I love the car. The latest software update made the driver alert system less sensitive, which is great.
The biggest downside, though, is the AC—something you don’t really notice during a test drive at the dealership. It just doesn’t seem able to maintain a stable temperature, and in auto mode, it makes a lot of noise.
Car AC systems aren’t exactly new technology, so I don’t understand why it's so difficult to get one that works properly. I suspect it has to do with the car’s efficiency—not being the best—so maybe they’ve nerfed the AC to improve range.
This could be the electric hot hatch of my dreams if they dropped it about an inch or so and stopped trying to sell it as a SUV.

I love to drive it!!!
Wait, but Model Y RWD, it’s much cheaper and that range …. it’s too big, but the percentage of people who would find that a deal breaker hahaha – it’s low.
The Volvo is Kind of ugly
This thing is ugly not even close to a rivian
Wish more would take the subtle cues of Ioniq5 mix of hardware buttons and UX buttons.
100000000000% want that R3x!
I dont think it looks as good as the R3X tho
For that price I think I'd rather just get a Model Y.
Love it.
There's literally no storage…. where do you put your stuff????
For a $46k car, no leather seats, no physical buttons, no heads up display or driver speedometer, no leg room in the back, only 250 miles of range, not sports car powerful or fun. It feels like I'm being ripped off from all sides. It's a good car for $30k-35k.
Huh, interesting comment about Harman Kardon. Harman Kardon used to be a high end audio company back in the day.
I've watched a few reviews about this car already and this one is the final nail in the coffin for me for this car. It just looks too intrusive, too annoying to live with, and too compromised. I'm on my third Volvo S60 and I am very disappointed in the direction the company is headed. I think it's finally time to switch to Audi.
Lost me with the no buttons for climate and volume
teslas are just far superior
Hyundai Kona with similar specs starting at just over $32K – $49K Kia Niro EV also with similar specs starting at a little over $39k – $45k
Don't get me wrong. The Volvo EX-30 is definitely a more cleaner minimalist look on the inside and the exterior looks better than the Kona and a tiny bit better looking than the Kia IMO. But as budget EV's go with those specs, both the Hyundai and Kia are coming in way cheaper. For the price you could spec up either model and get more car than you would with the EX 30..
I think all three types are some decent around town or city go getters and may be good for the parent that's dropping the kids off at school.
Let’s not kid ourselves here; this is a hatchback.
Does he go to the bathroom in the bushes right before he hits record. Time to have Charmin sponsoring the beginning of the videos!
EURO NCAP – EU's DOT, just mandated that new cars must have physical switches for blinkers, A/C, and radio volume and a few other things – because they have data that touchscreens have increased accidents around 40% – so this minimal dash wont last
The biggest drawback about the Volvo EX30, is the fact the Volvo C40 Recharge exists and looks SO MUCH BETTER (but worse milage) But one of the best looking crossovers ever. lol
My 2006 Scion xB with a wheelbase of 98.4″ has literally twice as much rear legroom with the front seat in 6'3" position. It can be done.
Not a fan of the paint color but otherwise it’s a clean ride.
Who in the right mind would choose this over a Model Y/3 is the question.

13:25 Goes 250 miles… "doesn't have enough range"
Bro please stop coming out of the woods.
