  1. Shield Drones would make sense during the vulnerable shift to NAV mode. You would like to put that shield emitting drone between your ship and the opponent. Expensive to throw away drones carrying ship grade components (shield, power, cooling), but better than tripping over Death of a Spaceman or having no defensive options. Would give your copilot something critical to do during conversion to NAV mode.

  2. Stop day dreaming!, there won't be any server mashing, won't be any new development of Star citizen, so there won't be any drones. The PU of Star citizen will end when SQ42 release. PU is a tool and fund gethering tool to make SQ42. So what CIG is doing is Grapping money as much as possible and go! then grap more money with SQ42, They don't give a shit about PU backers!

I have been wondering about the Apollo and whether or not they release it without the drones. I feel like drones are still a ways off, but with the focus on the RSI pipeline this year maybe they choose to advance the Apollo regardless of this, get it in the verse and being used, and aim for a T0 next year perhaps. I mean, we 'have' medical gameplay; it isn't like the drone tech holds that up.

  4. While not directly a drone in itself. Bounty hunter capture pods are drone adjacent, requiring the bounty hunter to control and load up a bounty. Bring the bounty back to the ship and deliver to a holding facility or detention center.

We might see something simular to medical game play in the form of a stretcher.

That's kinda where I see how CIG may develop drones. First showing up as a non remote controlled device. Then adding remote control functionality.
