  1. Free dashcam: Get that 2-3 year old smartphone out of the drawer, put a dashcam app on it and put it in a car cellphone bracket. The only problems are keeping it charged and removing it when you park to prevent overheating.

  2. I have the Garmin and I like it. It’s the smallest of the bunch (unobtrusive) and I don’t even think about it now that it’s hardwired into the car.

  3. Seems to me that the best solution is for gopro to finally drop a dashcam that will blow all of the other substandards out of the way. How has gopro not taken over this market or better question y not? Hands down would dominate

  4. I've had 3 Rexxings total.. in each of my cars at the time. I went to it because the price and quality were okay, they were powered by capacitors, but it mounted flush to the windshield; all the others I tried before was mounted and then used brackets, all of which no matter how hard you tightened it, would vibrate more than Miley Cyrus twerking.

  5. I have a Xiaomi 70 mai only costed me like €40,- but it's very usable as the register plates are sharp enough to read them.
Maybe it also helps that here in the Netherlands the license plates are yellow with black letters/numbers but it also reads the license plate numbers of taxi's (blue with black letters)
Maybe the white reflects too much for the cheaper dash cams.

I wouldn't recommend a Xiaomi though as the ui is really bad and for some reason it breaks the endurance sd cards every 5-6 months the normal ones go even faster🤷🏾

  6. Sometimes we dont need all the details. We just need proof against fraud and crime. Like pedestrian running into the car, brake checkers who hits their brakes for no reason, lane cutters who hits the brakes right after, red light runners, bicycles not in bike lanes, left turners from the far right lane or vice versa, etc. Things that automated driving systems are not programmed to handle since it lacks logic and reason in driving.

  7. In 2017 I bought a Chinese dascam branded anumit for 83 dollars with ambarella A12 chip 2560*1440p and 7 layer lens and the image quality was good, I could read plates from day and night and the image IN general was pretty good, saved me in an accident as the other person was lying in his statement, now the camera is 6yo and I have problems when it's too cold or too hot it doesn't turn on or sometimes it doesn't record, now I have to buy another one and I'll be looking for ambarella chip combined with a good lens

  8. And you can bet that all those insurance fraud scams caught on video were created by insurance companies to make you believe everybody is trying to rip them off. So when your house burns down they will claim you did it to collect the insurance money. If one of your relatives dies they will claim you murdered them to get the insurance money. They are in business to collect insurance premiums and to make sure nobody gets paid when they suffer a loss. They would rather have you go to prison even if you deserve to be paid.

  9. Front and Rear Windshield. Pocket Side Windows after the Rear Doors (both these cameras have flash on) and I hid AirTags in the chassis. For 10gs I can customize and give any car as many features as the tesla has.🙄

Pyschology trick: when people road rage with me, they cant see the rear camera so they keep trying and as soon as they are right beside me with the flash in there face they take off. You are all so fucking stupid it absolutely amazes me and now after all these years I can finally just drive with no issues and go as fucking slow as I want.

  10. Viofo 119 = paperweight. When it worked, it was sporadic and absolutely unreliable. Video capture was awesome – again, when it worked. Customer service never responded to me.

  11. To be fair, the sheer recording conditions makes it hard for one camera to be great at everything. One day you have a bright sunrise in your face, another you are driving in the rain at night. Even $700+ cell phones aren't perfect in all conditions. Linus is right. Most of these dashcams use the same basic Sony camera lens, so you won't see that much of a difference between them. It's all in the processing. Think Pixel phone lenses. Same exact camera for 4 generations, but the processing has improved drastically.

  12. I have a garmin dashcam. Records in 720p, bought it at bestbuy. I forget how much. 2015 so it’s 8 years old now and it only has issues when it’s-30 or colder. Very pleased with it.
