We have the same thing in the UK and when they tested ours boy did my iPhone produce a noise louder than I thought it could. It’s quite startling, let others know around you if they’re not aware or scared by it.
We had this in India 2 weeks ago. Suffice to say everyone in my family were alarmed and thought we were being hacked or something. Those messages appeared 5-6 times within a span of 10 minutes.
I heard about this last night, but thank you for the reminder because I forgot. I'll put my phone on airplane mode because I don't want to have it go off. A few months ago there were several tornadoes nearby and I got an alert, it was really scary but what's nice is I had my ringer off and it still went through. Fortunately it was at least a few counties away, but I was terrified (sky being yellow didn't help).
