Not sure it has to be exchanges pumping the price, lots of other individuals with vested interests could be involved. Interesting theory though, I have been considering the custody fund, since I imagine Coinbase retain decisions about when to pump.

This is the honest truth! The established exchanges understand the emotional triggers to get people on that fomo train and run up that trading volume. This is straight bully moves. Without proper entry points and scaling out of positions when the market gets overextended will get you smashed in this market. Thank you for all that you do bro!
Makes more sense than the hft trade doing all of it. Market makers have an agenda, big boys know and play along. In a month or so they can take it back down and start over. Exchanges have all the inside tech info and no oversight to restrict them from using that data to their advantage.

Can't wait until the market matures so we aren't always dealing with this crap. Im cool with manipulation as long as it's bringing prices up but when people keep working behind the scenes to dump crypto, its not cool.
Manipulation in crypto (and the traditional markets as well) is just a matter of fact. Manipulation on the way up end of 2017, manipulation on the way down early 2018. It goes both ways, no surprise the exchanges and big whales have an incentive to manipulate markets
